So, international cricket star Harbhajan Singh has been banned for 11 matches of the Twenty20 Indian Premier League for slapping fellow cricketer Sreesanth. While the two represent India in international matches, they play for Mumbai Indians and Mohali Kings teams of the IPL respectively.
This is not the first time Harbhajan has got into trouble. The recent series against Australia had seen the game of cricket being played in an atmosphere of a war of words with Harbhajan being the centre of all controversy. Matthew Hayden went to the extent of referring to him as an ‘obnoxious little weed.‘
But why is the whole world after Harbhajan only? It seems he deserves every bit of it, according to a senior official of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). According to him, Harbhajan is ill-mannered, uncouth, disrespectful and has absolutely no sense of how to behave with others. This opinion comes from someone who has been a senior cricketer and is now a key functionary of DDCA. But I cannot name him for obvious reasons.
To date, a lot of what transpired between Harbhajan and others could not be effectively proven as there was little recorded evidence; but the incident where he slapped Sreesanth was in front of all to see. And there was no escaping this time for him. Kudos to BCCI for taking a tough stand on the issue; but one cannot but feel sorry for the owners (read Mukesh Ambani) of the $111.9 million Mumbai Indians team whose campaign will only get tougher; they have lost all matches played so far, have not been able to use the services of Sachin Tendulkar to date due to injury and have now lost a key off-spinner too.

Harbhajan does not mean that he is ill mannered but instances do provoke one to do such things. Since Sree in an agressive bowler it might have provocated Harbhajan that his aggressiveness might have had impact on the opposition. There will be lot of off field issues too related to the incident which took place after the Mumbai Indians lost to Mohali team.
And I thought Sreesanth was crying because Preeti Zinta hugged Brett Lee and not him. I don’t know about Harbhajan and what you have said about him may be right but the fact remains that Sreesanth is no saint himself and I guess he should have been penalized too.
Well said Navin - a good chuckle is what this incident deserves. And yes, Sreesanth’s role should be investigated too.
