SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST


General:


Psychologist is responsible for conducting individual psycho-educational case studies and utilizing results to promote the welfare of the individual.


Functions:


  • Assists the school staff in selecting children who need the services of the school psychologist.
  • Conducts individual psycho-educational evaluations of children referred in order to:
  • Evaluate current functioning.
  • Appraise readiness for learning.
  • Determine factors contributing to adjustment and/or learning difficulties from the standpoint of mental maturity, academic achievement, emotional maturity and social adjustment.
  • Assist in the identification and evaluation of exceptional children.
  • To work with IEP conferences and follow-up.
  • Participates in planning and programming for children evaluated by.
  • Interpreting findings to child, classroom teachers, other school personnel, parents, and qualified community agencies through individual conferences and written reports.
  • Assisting in the special placement of pupils
  • Consulting and collaborating with those developing and providing appropriate instructional programs and remedial instruction.
  • Participating in parent and pupil counseling.
  • Acting as liaison and referral agent to community medical, psychological, social, and welfare resources.
  • Provides consultative services to the professional staff of the school system in areas such as:
  • Developing administrative and organizational structure, policies, and procedures which are conductive to mental health and responsive to the individual needs of children.
  • Developing and interpreting standardized group testing programs.
  • Developing and participating in appropriate staff development programs.
  • Any other assignment deemed necessary by the administration.
  • Provides consolation to assigned schools in the areas of student assistance teams, due process, on-going program implementation, assigned collaboration monitoring, parent conferences, 504 Plans, functional behavior assessments, trauma responsive practices.
  • Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy counseling for students as assigned.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
  • Assists with completion, collection, verification, and processing of Medicaid reimbursement paperwork.
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of special programs for students and staff and make recommendations for improvement, including the annual special education self-assessment process.
  • Performs all other reasonable duties as requested by Special Education Director.
