1st Shift Packer / Dumper (Oswego, IL)

Summary: Responsible for the set-up, operation, adjustment, and clean-up of packaging equipment. The equipment includes form fill and seals packaging machines, bulk packaging machines, jar packaging machine, check weighers, metal detectors and case fillers. The operator ensures that quality products are packaged in a safe, efficient, and sanitary manner Primarily performs the dispensing of product into the mezzanine hopper but will work in other positions on the packaging line as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Dispenses product into the mezzanine hopper
• Reads packaging schedule or follows verbal instructions to ascertain product to be dispensed into the hopper
• Unloads and loads drums of product to and from the pallet by hand by operating manual or electric hand jack
• Opens drums of product and unloads/ loads drums of product onto electric dumper or electric hoist
• Reads product number and lot number of each unit of product and communicates to the line operator the product and lot number of each unit
• Clean and attach identifying tags or labels to each drum with designated label
• Wash and assemble mezzanine and lower level hopper, parts, and clean entire work area
• Reads packaging schedule or follows verbal instructions to label the packaging material
• Review and inspects labels to verify the accuracy and clarity of printing
• May affix labels to corrugated materials, jars, bottle or bag
• Operates glue machine
• Observes packaged precuts for uneven or torn edges to determine which labels are usable
• Places container in shipping containers
• Compares items packed with the schedule and other identifying data and records the number of materials labeled and completes line check forms
• Stacks cases onto pallets in designated format and operates automated case packer and printer
• Transports pallets of product to the designated staging area
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area
• May operate a forklift
• Other duties as assigned.
• Complete all training defined and made available for the currently assigned role. Responsible for attending all training made available assuring full understanding of the training and have the ability to perform trained activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Education and/or Experience

HS Diploma/GED Preferred

• Communication Skills

It is essential to have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to read and follow written work instructions.

• Mathematical Skills

Must have basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

• Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

• Other Qualifications

Must be able to complete forklift certification program.
