2nd shift Packaging Operator (Oswego, IL)

Responsible for the set-up, operation, adjustment, and clean-up of packaging equipment.The equipment includes form fill and seal packaging machines, bulk packaging machines, jar packaging machine, check weighers, metal detectors and case fillers. The operator ensures that quality products are packaged in a safe, efficient, and sanitary manner.
  • Reviews packaging work order and obtains correct product, packaging materials and equipment set-up
  • Inspects and cleans work area prior to beginning operation and at shift end.
  • Inspects and adjusts equipment prior to beginning operation
  • Completes production reports documenting performance; enter transactions into RF equipment
  • Adjusts equipment during operation to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met
  • Dump product into hopper for filling
  • Performs change-over by setting up auger, funnel, tubing and former for specific lines and/or product
  • Cleans and washes line and equipment
  • Load and set film or units for form fill machines
  • May manually pack units into cartons as required
  • May manually affix label cartons
  • May manually stack cartons on to pallets as required
  • May operate a forklift as required
  • Reports any product quality deviations or mechanical failures to the utility person or team captain
  • Cleans work area and equipment at end of shift
  • Complete all training defined and made available for the current assigned role. Responsible for attending all training made available assuring full understanding of the training and have the ability to perform trained activities.
  • Responsible for the coordination and review of specific functional area BRC criteria. Ensure BRC protocols are implemented and audited as required. Provide employee training as needed. Ensure Food products meet safety, quality and legal requirements.
  • Education and/or Experience
Less than high school education; or one month related experience or training and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Communication Skills
It is essential to have excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Ability to read and follow written work instructions.
  • Computer Skills
Perform limited data entry into manufacturing software system
  • Mathematical Skills
Must have basic math skills to add, subtract, and divide.
  • Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Other Qualifications
Must be able to complete company’s Forklift Certification program
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
Environmental Concerns
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Dust and odor present in environment.
