The Marilyn Maxwell Latch Academic Support Program is a first-year support and learning community. It serves a diverse population of about 185 students per semester who are looking for support as they transition into college and develop their reading, writing, mathematics, and other academic skills. The Latch program offers a mix of academic advising and counseling, and peer tutor-mentoring that create a tight-knit learning community in which students learn together and from one another. For 50 years, Latch's community approach to education has helped students establish successful independent learning strategies and set realistic academic and career goals.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Academic Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of the Latch program.
  • Coordinates provision of program's year-round academic advising and tutor-mentoring services and monitors academic progress of students.
  • Provides comprehensive academic support services for Latch students, including advising a caseload of Latch students.
  • Screens, interviews, evaluates, and processes Latch program applicants.
  • Assists advisors in identifying "at-risk" students and coordinating intervention and support efforts.
  • Recruits, hires, instructs, and coordinates activities of peer and paraprofessional tutor-mentors.
  • Assigns academic advisors and notifies advisors of the assignments.
  • Designs, creates, and co-teaches tutor-mentor training curriculum, in collaboration with a number of other college offices.
  • Designs, creates, and co-teaches online Latch Seminar course, in collaboration with program's advisors.
  • Maintains student files, advising notes, and peer tutor-mentor records that document student advisement and peer tutor-mentor sessions.
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets, utilizes, and provides data on student and program performance to improve outcomes and prepare regular reports.
  • Assists with college's new-student orientations, enrollment management events, and serves on college-wide committees and teams, as appointed.
  • Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas, research new trends and advances in the profession, and attends workshops and training sessions.
  • Performs related duties as directed.

Job Requirements:


Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Sociology, or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training that includes academic advisement, academic placement, counseling, career development, math/electronics teaching, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Position Status: Full-time benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) position of Academic Coordinator. For classification specification details please follow this link:

Hours: 37.5 hours a week, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday; requires some early mornings, nights, and weekends.

Salary: $63,607 - $69,615 annually Grade 6. Salary is commensurate and based on the MCCC Classification Study.

Worksite: This position will be located on Massasoit's Brockton Campus. Requires some travel to all of Massasoit's learning sites. This position may be eligible for telework in accordance in with the College's telework policy.
