Our 100+ professionals and providers serve the people of Maui at three clinics—two locations in Wailuku and one in Lahaina. We have behavioral health providers who partner with the primary care clinicians to assist in a vast number of activities including warm handoffs for acute behavioral health crisis management, substance abuse counseling, tobacco cessation counseling, chronic disease self management counseling, and long-term individual and family therapy. PRIMARY FUNCTION: : The general ledger accountant position: is responsible for creating journal entries and assembling supporting documentation, as well as for tracking the contents of accounts, reconciling assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly basis, developing and maintaining internal departmental financial reports and creating portions of the financial statements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS :
    • Participates in month-end and year-end closing and maintains a master list of monthly journal entries.
    • Prepares and maintains accurate supporting information for all journal entries.
    • Enters journal entries into the accounting software.
    • Ensures that reversing entries occur timely.
    • Ensure that recurring entries are changed or terminated at appropriate trigger points.
    • Completes bank reconciliations for assigned accounts.
    • Maintains detailed listings of the contents of all balance sheet accounts.
    • Reconciles detailed accounts receivable records to the general ledger control account.
    • Performs all functions for fixed asset accounting. This includes but is not limited to maintaining accurate, detailed schedules, calculating and recording depreciation, reviewing and ensuring proper accounting of unrecorded purchases and disposals, and annual physical inventories.
    • Prepare accrual and adjusting entries for items such as late invoices, salary and wages, payroll taxes and depreciation.
    • Assist auditors with assigned tasks/items.
    • Provides back up coverage for tax reporting, including but not limited to general excise tax (GET).
    • Provides back up coverage for accounts payable processing. This entails review and validation of invoices against purchase orders, preparing and printing check runs, may require year-end reporting.
    • In conjunction with the Controller:
    • May assist in monitoring grant activity and preparing periodic reports.
    • May assist in the preparation of financial statements.

Education:
    • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
    • Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in accounting or related field preferred.

Experience:
    • Relevant work experience equivalency acceptable.

Skills/Competencies:
    • Ability to communicate clearly.
    • Ability to read, write, and understand in the English language and respond in detailed oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to use required computerized accounting, spreadsheets, databases, word processing and personnel recordkeeping. Basic Excel skills are a required
    • Skill in maintaining files.
    • Ability to maintain quality control standards
    • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
    • Must have or get negative TB clearance within past 12 months.:
