The duties of this position are to be performed while demonstrating all of Sunshine Ace Hardware’s Core Values. The Accounting Specialist role is a support function for the Accounting Department that includes Accounts Receivable, General Accounting, and Accounts Payable. This position will encompass a basic knowledge of the processes and procedures of the entire company. Having a strong sense of curiosity and desire to understand the whys and hows will be key to success.

YOUR ROLE:
  • The role will be focused on the general needs of the accounting department which will include but are not limited to:
  • Learn and understand all functions in the Accounts Receivable process
  • Daily reconciliation and journal entries of customer credit cards
  • Prepare customer statements (rotation between others in the department)
  • Post and deposit checks received for payment from customers
  • Reconcile assigned house and commercial accounts
  • Work with our third-party receivables partner along with working with the store teams to resolve any transactions out of balance
  • Research and respond to customers’ billing questions in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Answer questions from external or internal customers regarding customer accounts
  • Open house and/or Capital One accounts when needed
  • Enter new customer accounts in a timely fashion
  • Maintain resale certificates from our customers and keep current, requesting when needed
  • Work with accounting team to reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts
  • Enter general accounting journal entries when needed
  • Work with the accounting team on the monthly close process
  • Understand the AP process and serve as backup to the AP team if needed
  • Assist in the weekly process of the ACE statements as well as outside vendors
  • Assist the AP team to identify discrepancies on invoices and work directly with either buyer, receiver, or vendor to resolve
  • Respond to vendor inquiries, set up new vendor information obtain the necessary documentation
  • Assist the AP team to ensure all vendor discounts opportunities are taken
  • General administrative tasks including filing as needed
  • Ad hoc projects and/or analysis as assigned
  • Serve as a backup to other roles within the department
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 3 years of general accounting experience
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, a concentration on accounts receivable preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Proficiency and accuracy in the use of Microsoft Office software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.) as well as Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
  • Comfortable with the use of current technology including computers, printers, and phones
  • Associate degree in Accounting or related field preferred; or, high school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of progressively responsible and directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to improve processes and create efficiencies is a plus; Must be flexible and able to adapt to evolving business needs and changing environments.

  • Identify and bring recommendations to the department on efficiencies in tasks and/or processes.
Physical Demands
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 15 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and effectively verbally communicate to exchange information.

Other Qualifications
Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver License with a clean driving record in accordance with the company’s insurance carrier’s standards may be required.
