Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for an Administrative Assistant 3 - Materials & Sciences Laboratories, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California

The successful candidate will be a vital member of the team and perform in an administrative leadership role. The administrative assistant will report to the department manager of the Materials & Sciences Laboratories. The administrative assistant will be responsible for the purchasing of tools and materials to support laboratory operations. The position will also be responsible for tracking the status of the department purchases and follow up with buyers and vendors for status. The successful candidate will be responsible for booking travel for members of the department and submitting the associated expense reports. The administrative assistant will provide support other center departments when their respective administrative assistants are out of the office.

Finally, the administrative assistant will be responsible for a number of functions that allow the department to operate efficiently. For example, tracking the department personnel roster as members join and leave, including maintaining the department organization chart.

The successful candidate will be able to maintain professional demeanor and act with integrity with all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills and able to work with minimal supervision. Finally, the successful candidate will be committed to protect and maintain confidentiality.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as an administrative assistant or performing administrative related work

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook or PowerPoint)

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment while demonstrating flexibility and agility, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines, managing schedule conflicts, and providing excellent follow-through

  • Demonstrates outstanding verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Experience working with corporate buyers for purchasing

  • Experience with tracking purchasing

  • Familiarity with Northrop Grumman (NG) policies and procedures

  • Familiarity with NG systems (SAP, Concur, iBuy, and other NG tools)

  • Advanced proficiency in business and travel expense system (Concur, Edge, or similar) with complex, frequently changing travel



Salary Range: $51,800 USD - $86,400 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
