ADMINISTRATOR OF PARKS, OPEN LANDS AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION
- SALARY: 2023 $81,745 2024 $83,380

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: either
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Master’s degree and one (1) year of full time paid experience (or its part time paid equivalence) in planning and administering parks, open lands or historic preservation programs or environmental conservation or sustainability programs; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full time paid experience (or its part time paid equivalence) in planning and administering parks, open lands or historic preservation programs or environmental conservation or sustainability programs.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates degree and six (8) years of full time paid experience (or its part time paid equivalence) in planning and administering parks, open lands or historic preservation programs or environmental conservation or sustainability programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Must possess a valid NYS Drivers License and must maintain said license for the duration of employment.
DUTIES:
- This position is an advanced professional, managerial position performing a wide range of duties responsible for developing and administering a City-wide park management plan of which the goal is for the planning, development and administration of parks, open lands and historic preservation programs within an historic urban setting.
- This position will also act as the Sustainability Coordinator.
- The incumbent shall develop a long range Capital Plan and Master Plan and maintain an inventory of lands and buildings classified as parklands, open lands or historic preservation sites.
- The Administrator of Parks, Open Lands, and Historic Preservation coordinates activities and develops plans for maintenance and use of parks, open lands and historic preservation; drafts proposals for acquisitions and development of additional parklands, open lands or historic preservation sites.
- The work is performed under the general supervision of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work.
- The incumbents does related work as required and/or assigned.
- Works with various consultants on the City Comprehensive Plan , City Zoning Ordinances and other sustainability and planning projects;
- Works with Community Organizations on various topics including but not limited to; historic preservation and protection of open space, environmentally preferable procurement; resources conservation, and recycling, waste reduction, and renewable energy/energy efficiency;
- Actively coordinates and implements City policies;
- Updates and maintains an inventory of land and buildings classified as park lands, open lands and historic preservation sites;
- Meets with representatives of and shall work closely with the City Recreation Commission and ensures that the Recreation Commission has access to appropriate lands and facilities for scheduling Recreation Commission’s programs;
- Recommends general standards relative to concessions, concession stands on City owned property within the system to the City Council in conjunction with the Recreation Commission;
