The Psychiatric Provider’s primary responsibility is to evaluate patient’s/client’s appropriateness for therapies involving the use of psychotropic medications and other required medications in the case of diagnosed medical, mental health disorders and/or substance abuse/addiction and to prescribe and adjust medications as indicated. Provider will conduct thorough histories and physical examinations on new patients; evaluate medical history; complete initial and annual medication evaluations; and make appropriate recommendations for follow-up. Perform medication reviews for both new and existing patients. Coordinate patient medical care with a comprehensive team including other clinicians of various disciplines within and without HHS.
Provide medical services including evaluating/assessing, diagnosing, implementing treatment plans, and participating in collaborative care treatment for patients/clients with medical, mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders to include assessments, individual sessions, and treatment planning. Work as part of a team to provide services and community support in a recovery oriented outpatient and residential services support setting. Evaluates and prescribes for an assigned patient/client caseload. Reviews treatment plans and progress notes for appropriate medication usage, applying evidence-based practices and appropriate clinical guidelines. Provides professional services in accordance with all current Tribal, Federal and State standards, guidelines and regulations governing the clinical programs of the Health and Human Services Division and the prescribing of psychotropic and other medications.
- Medically/psychiatrically assess all new residents admitted to the San Poil Treatment Center.
- Medically/psychiatrically assess patients/clients referred for assessment by other clinical providers in an outpatient setting.
- Evaluates patient/client need for acute, sub-acute, and chronic medical conditions/treatment and consult on whether such treatment can be provided within the confines of an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility, i.e. determine appropriateness of the placement based upon the health of the patient/client.
- Provides psychiatric evaluation of patients/clients.
Provides initial evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support to patients/clients.
Prescribes appropriate psychotropic medication to patients/clients.
- Provides pharmacological services on an individual and/or group basis for patients/clients who require such services.
Instructs patients/client in the purpose, dose, schedule, possible side effects, adverse reactions, and interactions of medications.
- Provides consultation, education, and training to staff.
- Performs assigned intakes and presentation to clinical team.
- Be available for emergency consultation on a 24 hour basis with appropriate coverage provided during approved absences.
The position requires an advanced degree and/or certification as a healthcare professional authorized to provide medical care independently in any U.S. State or jurisdiction with a scope of practice in keeping with the above. This may include a physician (M.D. or D.O.) with or without board certification in psychiatry or an interest in psychiatric care and/or addiction medicine or an advanced practice registered nurse with similar training, experience, and interest.
Current M.D. or D.O. licensure in any U.S. State or jurisdiction or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (or similar designation) with an active registration/certification/license from a State Board of Nursing or Medicine and DEA registration in good standing. DATA 2000 X waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine/ Naloxone. Current First Aid and CPR (healthcare provider) cards or able to obtain within 60 days of employment and maintain throughout employment. Requires a valid driver’s license and eligibility for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
