Position Description
The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for an Adult Rights Specialist 2 in Elko, Nevada with Adult Protective Services (APS. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in APS and Long Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO).
Adult Rights Specialists provide assistance and advocacy to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of older persons (adults 60 and older) and/or vulnerable persons (adults with intellectual, physical or related disabilities), henceforth referred to as clients.
Under limited supervision, incumbents, in addition to performing the full range of duties described in the series concept, conduct investigations, provide interventions for self-neglect as well as allegations of abandonment, abuse, exploitation, isolation, and neglect made by, or on the behalf of, APS clients residing in the community or long-term care settings; provide advocacy, referrals and implementation of intervention plans using a person-centered approach; and carry out community outreach. The position requires frequent contact with members of the public, service providers and stakeholders. This position may also require the use of your own motor vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology or related social science or human services field, and one year of professional experience working with older and/or vulnerable persons investigating, mediating, negotiating, and resolving complaints which required the application of rules and regulations in making determinations and preparing detailed reports; OR one year of experience as an Adult Rights Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
