Job Description:

The Airport Screening Operations Consultant supports our Purpose by serving as a liaison for screening operations between multiple workgroups within Southwest and external organizations such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), airport authorities, and project management organizations. This role ser ves as a subject matter expert in projects, design, operation and maintenance related to baggage handling systems and security screening checkpoints. The Airport Screening Operations Consultant is a strategic thinker who loo ks forward to p roviding quality assurance for current screening operations as well as planning for Southwest’s future needs.

Job Summary

Supports design, innovation and improvements pertaining to all baggage handling and security checkpoints. Works with all relevant Stakeholders to assure performance, capability, and reliability of baggage handling and security checkpoints with consideration for future growth/needs. Participates in Team meetings, industry events, and the design, bidding, awarding, and implementation of baggage handling and security checkpoints and other activities as directed by the Employees Leader.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing project design and specifications to ensure that all bag systems meet the Planning Guidelines and Design Standards

Knowledge of baggage/material handling systems and checkpoint screening system design principles

Leverage schematic, design, and construction drawings

Partner with Ground Operations, TSA, Airport Authorities, etc., to maximize the efficiency of the baggage handling and security checkpoints

Prepare project design and specifications to ensure that all baggage handling and security checkpoints meet program requirements for performance, capability, and future capacity

Analyze historical data to identify capacity limitations

Identify and recommend innovative ideas and long-term solutions for security checkpoints and baggage systems

Research opportunities to reduce costs and identify savings

Verify all vendors and contractors maintain baggage handling and conveyor systems have the appropriate software programs and service process

May perform other job duties as directed by Employees Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

Skilled use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes

Skilled collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating data including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software

Preferred knowledge of blueprintsand construction documents

Preferred knowledge of project management
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge with conveyor maintenance programs, airport/airline operations, managing maintenance contracts, and vendor relations
Licensing/Certification
Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Ability to raise/move/transport 100 lbs. on an occasional basis (under 50%)
Ability to operate motorized vehicles/equipment
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $102,500.00 per year to $113,900.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement. For eligible leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
