Ambulance Services Clerk Job at Kaiser Permanente
The Ambulance Clerk is an important key member of the department in that he/she will perform all ambulance duties and necessary clerical support functions for the Medical Transportation department. Must demonstrate the ability to foster a collaborative service-oriented culture, responsive to member, staff and physician needs.
Essential Functions:
- Review, process and coordinate ambulance phone lines, authorizations and bills.
- Assure that the appropriate ambulance benefit is maintained and explained to providers.
- Must input all relevant data into computer database and coordinate transfers effectively and completely.
- Work with outside providers to resolve ambulance issues concerning service and billing.
- Coordinate all ambulance transfers for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
- Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to regulatory agencies and Policy and Procedures of KFH-Northern California Region.
- Provide physicians, nurses, ambulance vendors and all other inquiries with accurate information regarding KFH - Northern California Regional Policies and Procedures.
- Verify health plan membership and confirm benefits appropriately.
- Type form letters and miscellaneous correspondences as directed by the supervisor/manager.
- Attend mandatory department meetings and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Grade 05
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Graduate
- College Level Courses preferred
- Knowledge of Personal Computers required (i.e., databases and word processing).
- Demonstrated good attendance record required.
- Medical Terminology required.
- Minimum one year recent medical clerical experience preferred.
- Advanced reading and writing skills required.
- Prior data entry experience and work processing skills preferred.
- Word processing speed of 45 wpm required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and negotiate resolution of problems. Strong customer service skills required to communicate effectively with providers, outside vendors and levels of management.
- Prior knowledge of type of ambulance service (i.e., BLS, ALS, CCT) and benefit summary preferred.
- Working knowledge of Mainframe preferred.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and every other holiday - required. Skills Testing: Typing (45WPM) & Medical Terminology.
