The candidate for this position can be based out of our Richmond or Arlington, Virginia office depending on the candidate’s current location. The role is intended to build the Permitting Analyst’s skillset and prepare the candidate for growth within the company, under the mentorship of Senior Permitting Analysts, Permitting Project Managers (PMs), Senior Permitting PMs, Managers (senior staff) and other groups within AES Clean Energy. Duties of the Permitting Analyst will include supporting senior staff with day-to-day permitting, environmental and land use entitlement efforts, as well as assisting with the coordination with AHJs and other agencies. The position involves coordination with senior staff, developers, real estate, execution, community relations and other groups within AES Clean Energy, and across multiple offices. The successful candidate will have the aptitude to succeed in supporting multiple project-related tasks and project development efforts in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The Permitting Analyst will work with senior staff and cross-functional teams in activities leading to the successful development renewable energy projects. Specific duties will include:
Conduct initial site screenings, due diligence and fatal flaw analyses that identify environmental and permitting constraints on potential project sites. Assist senior staff with tasks needed to secure land use permits for new and acquired solar power generating facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions. Support senior staff on reviewing technical and environmental studies for renewable project development. Assist senior staff with management of contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget. Once a project is permitted, assist senior staff in preparing Compliance Package for the environmental compliance team. Participate in meetings with the community, elected officials, and regulators as needed. Assist in cost reduction initiatives, vendor development, and invoice audits.
Desired Skills and Expertise:
  • Undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, geography, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of permitting experience in development, preferably in utility-scale renewables environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
  • Confidence in ability to work autonomously and thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of west coast land use entitlement processes a bonus but not required.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently in verbal and written correspondence.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth preferred.
  • Team player.
This is a remote position, however, we require that the candidate be located within the US territory.
