The Manager, Data Analytics will provide leadership and direction for the analytics, data strategy and dashboarding functions at Delta Dental of Wisconsin (DDWI). This position will be primarily responsible for providing advanced technical skills and leadership in the design, control, and use of analytical, modeling and dashboarding tooling to optimize the data sharing to support data-informed decision and provide the right data to the right person(s) at the right time across the organization.

The Manager, Data Analytics is responsible for:

  • Analytics consulting
    • Act as an information resource and provide customer (both internal and external) support ensuring working relationships between the Analytical team, other company departments, and executive leadership
    • Collaborate with Sales, Account Management, Marketing, Actuarial, Provider Relations, Underwriting, NorthWinds and other areas throughout the organization to develop plans for new and improving existing analytical resources
    • Optimize data sharing using tools that create stakeholder efficiencies
    • Collaborate with other Delta Dental teams and NorthWinds on data analysis and analytics
    • Champion and communicate DDWI’s data strategy across the organization
  • External awareness
    • Understand market and book of business trends (i.e. sales results and targets, loss ratios, expense ratios, claims costs, etc.) and use this information to assist in setting our strategic direction to incorporate these trends
    • Identify and analyze the internal and external factors which affect assumptions used in forecasting, trending rate models, etc.
    • Keep informed about market conditions, competitive information and political factors that may impact the goals and interests of the organization. Communicate key developments to appropriate stakeholders and use information appropriately when performing analysis or collaborating on internal and external projects.
  • Review and oversight of the analytics department’s internal and external work product
    • Create insights, using data, around core subject areas, such as: claims experience, premium rates, provider reimbursement, profit margins and administrative expense margins of the Delta Dental product portfolio
    • Enhance analytical models to review provider reimbursements, allowable fees and calculate impact of changes or modifications as needed
    • Identify and effectively communicate information and data around sales, terms, provider reimbursement, network value, and competitive positioning
    • Analyze Delta Dental trends including, but not limited to claim utilization and intensity, fee inflation, premium and enrollment by product, segment, and employer contribution
    • Assist in resolving the most complex work requests and serve as a resource for the team by maintaining a thorough working knowledge of Delta Dental’s products and services as well as the data tools available
  • Providing direction and supervision of department staff
    • Review and approve Human Resource recommendations
    • Manages key performance metrics
    • Conduct performance management
    • Implements and ensures compliance with policies and procedures
    • Implements and ensures operations of systems required to meet department objectives
    • Manage department workflow, including planning and balancing workloads, communicating project status updates, establishing, and managing deadlines, etc.
    • Develop and communicate key messages to staff; plan, schedule and facilitate actuarial services department meetings
    • Maintain documentation and recommend modifications for improvement in work product and efficiencies
    • Ensure staff are providing high quality work through accountability for the accuracy, quality and productivity of assigned work
    • Hire, coach and manage the analytical reporting staff
    • Assist Director, Actuarial & Analytics to develop, recommend and manage the implementation of department goals, objectives, and strategies
    • Recommends department budget, analyzes and contributes to successful results

Qualifications

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Business Administration or related field.

Experience

Required

5 years: Work experience

Preferred

2 years: Experience leading employees and managing teams
8 years: Work experience
