Spend an incredible summer working at Camp Zeke! Camp Zeke celebrates healthy, active living through whole foods, sports, fitness and culinary arts! We are a sleepaway camp located on 560 serene acres in Northeastern, PA and have campers ages 7-17.

The assistant chef plays an important role in the overall operation of our kitchen, both as a supervisor and mentor to less experienced kitchen staff, as well as to support the chefs and the overall running of the kitchen. At Camp Zeke, the food service plays an integral role in the mission of the camp, and it is our goal to serve delicious, beautifully presented, healthy meals to our campers and staff.

Job Description:

• You will work under the direct supervision of the Head Chefs.
• Review the daily menu ahead of time and assist the chefs with the division of labor and assigning of tasks.
• Assist in food preparation under the guidance and direction of the chef. This work will include a good deal of knife work, as well as assembly, counting and basic cooking of food items.
• Organize the preparation of breakfast by overseeing the assignments of staff and production of the meals. Always make sure that enough food is being prepared and is ready on time.
• Help with all aspects of food service during meals — serving food, restocking the buffet tables, assisting with the kitchen, and generally insuring everything goes smoothly.
• Take a lead role in the cleaning the kitchen after meals, including washing dishes, mopping the floor daily and removing all garbage and recycling to the dumpsters. Make sure that kitchen staff are doing their jobs as assigned, and redirecting as needed.
• Take the lead for properly rotating food in the refrigerator and walk-in storeroom, as well as with handling deliveries. Help to supervise proper storage and placement of incoming product.
• Assign kitchen staff tasks to complete a major kitchen cleaning once each week - including all equipment used. Work along side the team to insure that the work is being done properly and efficiently.
• Provide support in other areas as directed by your supervisor or the camp directorate.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Work from June 13th to August 16th and live onsite at our camp in Northeastern, PA
• 3+ Years Experience as a chef
• Demonstrated Knowledge of Kosher Cooking and Healthy Cuisine is a plus.
• Self-Starting Personality with an Even Disposition.
• Must Possess Culinary Creativity and Have Proven Leadership Skills, A Strong Work Ethic, And A Motivating, Positive Attitude. Must be a Hands-On Chef Who Will Work Alongside our Team.
• Strong Knowledge of Local, State and Federal Food Sanitation Regulations – Current Servsafe Certification.
• Comfortable Providing Direction and Supervision to Kitchen Staff.
