Assistant Coach, Cross Country and Track/Distance

Position Summary
Rogers State University, an NCAA D11 university, and member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) is seeking applicants for an assistant coach specializing in cross country and distance events to assist with the coaching and administrative duties of the cross-country and track program.

Primary Duties
  • Viable candidates will assist the head coach in all facets of the cross country and track program including instructing, planning, and directing practice and competition strategies for middle-distance and distance events; monitoring the student-athletes' academic success; coordinating team travel; managing purchase orders, expense reports, credit card reports, and daily practice logs; and recruiting quality student-athletes that excel both in sport and academically.
  • Serve as the Recruiting Coordinator - maintain Front Rush database, manage communications and prospect information, generate and update recruiting calendars and schedules, recommend or determine which prospective student-athletes (PSAs) the team should focus its time and resources to recruit, contact and recruit such prospects, coordinate visits with admissions, evaluate and communicate with PSAs, recruit and retain qualified student-athletes.
  • Serve as the Director of Operations - responsible for overseeing and coordinating team travel including creating itineraries, arrangements for lodging, meals, transportation, home meet management, etc. Assist Head Coach with administrative tasks associated with the operations of an efficient Division II cross country/track & field program.
  • Additional duties include the monitoring of student-athlete academic performance; conducting, advising, and counseling student-athletes regarding performance and conduct; and identifying and addressing student-athlete welfare issues. Other duties as assigned. Carries out duties within the stated philosophy of Rogers State University athletics and its educational mission.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous experience coaching and/or competing in collegiate athletics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Previous coaching experience at the NCAA Division I or II level.
  • Demonstrated recruiting success within the region.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies
  • Expertise in the technical aspects of cross country and track/distance.
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, Google Sheets, spreadsheets, and social media.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and vendors.
  • Extremely organized, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated.
  • Strong organizational, management, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively
  • Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations.

  • The Assistant Coach will keep regular office hours Monday through Friday.
  • Additional hours on nights, weekends, and holidays are required seasonally as dictated by the competition schedule.
