- A Master’s degree in Nursing Administration, Education or an equivalent field and a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which four years shall have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity; or,
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or,
- A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Summary:
- The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is assigned to the Nursing and Patient Care Service. The ANM is a registered nurse who demonstrates management and leadership skills. This RN is a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management of complex care.
- In addition, applies skills necessary to identify, coordinate, and/or identify discipline, specific education, as well as training in leadership, professional staff development and emerging needs, to all levels of staff.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Accountable to the Nurse Manager. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of a designated unit.
- Assists in providing administrative direction in the development and evaluation of nursing staff. Oversees daily operations of the unit by ensuring shifts are adequately staffed.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, creativity, and has the knowledge to manage resources to achieve quality performance, positive employee relations, and compliance with facility policies.
- Assist in coaching, mentoring, and leading a professional team in the delivery of services to our veteran patients and families. Assures quality of care is delivered to our patients and accepts a patient workload when needed.
- Supportive of change activities on their unit and works to assure implementation of change that may occur.
- Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee scheduling, approving timecards, staff performance, complaints and concern resolution, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Responsible for delegated management, staff nurse functions, is self-directed, demonstrates effective decision making, interpersonal skills, and possesses potential for assuming greater administrative responsibilities.
