Helen Y. Davis Leadership Academy Charter Public Schools Assistant Principal (1.0 FTE)OBJECTIVE: Helen Y. Davis Leadership Academy Charter Public School (the Academy) seeks a middle school Assistant Principal who will support our administrative teams efforts to implement the schools mission to develop high achieving students of good character who use problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills to inspire others and catalyze educational, economic, and political advancement within their communities and the broader nation.The Academy is a standalone middle school that serves grades 6-8 in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. The vast majority of our students come from low income and/or historically marginalized backgrounds, and we believe the most impactful way to close the achievement gap is through great teaching, high expectations for all students, and a curriculum that is rigorous and reflects the cultures, values, and traditions of the students and families that we serve.POSITION OVERVIEW: The Assistant Principal is expected to have expertise in instructional leadership that directly impacts student academic outcomes.

The Assistant Principal should be prepared to coach and support educators across departments to implement meaningful, data-driven instruction that meets students diverse needs.The Assistant Principal must demonstrate the leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents in a diverse environment. The Assistant Principal must have excellent analytical skills as well as oral and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills.The Assistant Principal will directly support the Principal to enact a cohesive, clear vision for teaching and learning that aligns all aspects of the schoolcurriculum, instruction, assessment, policy, equity, and cultureto student learning. The Assistant Principal will work with the Principal and other administrators to engage school constituents in a rigorous academic program, a positive school culture, and the schools mission and vision.RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional LeadershipProvides coaching and leadership development support for classroom teachers, clinical staff, and Dean of Students for professional and academic growth.Helps plan for and facilitate instructional learning team meetings, as well as school-wide professional development.Assists teachers in lesson and unit plan development aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.Uses data to guide academic goal setting and supports educators data analysis and utilization.Management and OperationsAssists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Principal when he/she is not on the premises.Seeks funding to enhance the cultural and academic programming at the Academy.Serves as school lead on the following operations: Assists in the preparation and maintaining of the master schedule within planning parameters established by the PrincipalImplements the community circle policy.Coordinates student of the month initiatives.Serves as liaison between the school and the transportation providers.Supervises substitute teachers, including arranging for coverage, ensuring that substitute folders are up to date and available for monitoring and evaluating performance.Family, Community, and Student EngagementAssists the Principal in planning activities including coordinating curriculum, instruction, students, volunteers and parent activities, and student support services.Assists the Principal in planning all school events.Support Principal and administration in budget development for school events.Engages the wider community to support school goals.Presents to the Board of Trustees as needed.Qualifications Required: Masters Degree.Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).Minimum of three (3) years K-12 teaching experience.Experience with budget preparation and implementation.Advanced technology skills (e.g., Google Classroom, discipline, attendance, and academic data platforms)Current authorization to work in the United States candidates must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.Qualification Preferred: Urban teaching experience in a middle school educational setting.Both English as a Second Language and Special Education Licensure.Being multilingual. Particular preference for Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean or Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, and Somali speakers.Terms: Please refer to the Helen Y.
