KGI is seeking applications for a faculty position in Data Analytics. The successful candidate will join the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences at KGI (Riggs) and collaborate with other Riggs faculty on teaching, research, and curriculum development within current programs and new program development. The Riggs School prioritizes teaching and research. Faculty have access to excellent research infrastructure, a strong network of contacts within the industry, and teaching loads that are conducive to success in research.
Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) was founded in 1997 as the first higher education institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to education and research related to the applied life sciences. Education and Experience:
The position requires a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computational genomics, data analytics, data science, or a related discipline. Candidate must have experience in teaching, scholarship, and university service commensurate with the desired rank. Experience in or working with the life science industry is desired. We welcome candidates with an interdisciplinary background.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Develop, teach, and maintain courses relevant to the institution's curricular needs across multiple academic programs in the field of data analytics for the life sciences. Example topics include using computer programming languages such as Python and R for bioinformatics, genomics, data visualization, machine learning, and statistical analysis.
Maintain working knowledge of modern programming techniques, languages, and applications within the life sciences.
Provide advising and support for student research and industry-sponsored projects.
Participate in annual summer academic programs.
Develop and maintain an active research program in a relevant field.
Be an in-house expert to assist in collaborative research with other faculty.
Contribute regularly to service activities at KGI.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Expert knowledge in the biological sciences with an emphasis on genomics and bioinformatics.
Expert knowledge in creating and applying code to data analytics problems in the life sciences using programming languages such as Python and R.
Ability to collaborate with other faculty in both teaching and research.
Ability to teach in person and online using active learning pedagogies and advise team-based projects.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex issues to diverse individuals and groups.
Experience working with a diverse campus community and possess a commitment to equity and inclusion.
