Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in a biological science or a related field and one year of research experience. A master’s degree in a biological science or a related field may substitute for one year of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated hands on experience with bacteriology, molecular biology techniques, immunology, and biochemistry. Experience in research laboratory environment is desired, including supply ordering, lab maintenance. Experience with Lyme disease research.
Responsibilities :
The Assistant Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting with characterizing monoclonal antibodies against the Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi. The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with performing cloning and expression of antibodies in cell culture; assist in bacterial cultures, cloning and generating reporter strains; assisting with the development of new bacterial assays to measure antibody function, including killing assays, using a variety of instrumentation such as flow cytometry, spectrophotometry, microscopy, and Luminex. The Assistant Research Scientist will assist in developing in vitro infection models involving ticks. The incumbent will also assist with laboratory supply purchases; perform data analysis, prepare written reports, and communicate results in monthly teleconferences with NIH collaborators; and prepare presentations for intramural and extramural meetings, group discussions, and lectures.
