SCHEDULE: 29 hours per week | M, T, TH, F: 10:15 – 4:15 | W: 10:15 – 3:15

PAY: $22-25 an hour, commensurate with experience


OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking an Assistant Teacher/Dedicated Aide. The Assistant Teacher will provide one-on-one support for the supervision, care, and instruction of the Student in a general education setting. The Student is an intellectually curious, lively, opinionated, and silly 5.5-year-old boy with suspected attention issues. The Assistant Teacher will support the Child as needed, particularly with peer relationships and coaching, and writing tasks. The Assistant Teacher will assist in implementing plans for instruction, monitor behavior, and provide information to appropriate school personnel. The Assistant Teacher will report to the Lead Teacher with input from the Learning Specialist and other consultants brought in by the Parents of the Child. Evaluation of the Teaching Assistant will be provided with input from the appropriate supervising teachers.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Teacher will be punctual, self-driven, responsible, reliable, communicative, transparent, and pro-active about what they need to be successful & provide the best possible support for the Child. The Assistant Teacher must be patient, physically active, empathetic, engaged, energized, and adaptive to the child’s and classroom’s needs. The Assistant Teacher will regard themselves as a partner in the child’s education & development.


Support Student throughout the School Day

Assist the Student to participate in lessons, daily activities, and assessments.
Assist the Student with sensory and behavioral exercises throughout the day.
Facilitate independent work with materials in the learning environment.
Give lessons under the direction of the lead teacher in the classroom.
Implement prescribed behavioral strategies and positive behavior support in all settings.
Accompany and assist Student during certain meal and recess sessions, as well as related service sessions occurring during the school day (speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc.).
At the discretion of the Lead Teacher, the Dedicated Teaching Assistant may be asked occasionally to support the whole class as an alternate means of assisting the Student.

Collaborate with Parents, Teaching Team, and Consultants

Collaborate with the Lead Teacher, Learning Specialist, Parents, and specialists hired by the Parents. Collaboration may include but is not limited to the planning, management, and execution of: Lessons and work that the student will be doing independently and with support, classroom environment, natural environment teaching, instruction, behavior management strategies, and reinforcement systems.
Participate in weekly meetings with the Teacher and Assistant Teacher to receive feedback and instruction.
Attend in-service training as requested.
Occasional email communication between Parents, Lead Teacher, Learning Specialist, or outside professionals hired by the staff (not to exceed 30 minutes per week).
Provide regular communication about students’ development to the Lead Teacher and Parents.

Report Student Progress and Collect Data

Participate in training related to data collection and assessment.
Provide Parents and School with daily notes in the student’s Growth Plan and send weekly shared reports each Friday. Discuss observations with lead teacher and other teaching staff.
Communicate verbally or in writing directly to the Teacher and Parents any concerns or issues about Student’s progress that arise outside of the weekly report period.

Demonstrate tolerant, accepting attitude toward all students and communicate respectfully and effectively with students and other staff members; Demonstrate willingness to carry out teacher-designed instructional procedures; Communicate positively with student and family members; demonstrate a commitment to provide the assistance for student to be a productive member of his/her classroom; Apply positive management techniques for small groups in classroom, school, and community settings.


REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Child Development Associates credential and/or coursework in early childhood education/ human development strongly preferred.
Experience working in special education and/or with individuals with ADHD or behavioral issues preferred.
At least one year classroom experience, preferably in a public or urban setting.
Have prior work or volunteer experience with children or student with special needs.
Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
Have a firm commitment to upholding the school’s mission.
Cleared, current TB test and DOJ clearance.

Safe and reliable transportation required.
