Assistant Teaching Professor, Mathematics Job at University of New England
The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a full-time nine-month Assistant Teaching Professor in mathematics beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. SMAPS provides instruction to a wide range of science majors and seeks to connect relevant mathematical concepts to the student experience. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Data Science, and Laboratory Science.

Responsibilities
The school seeks candidates to teach introductory courses in statistics and precalculus that support the academic needs of STEM majors and also contribute to UNE’s core curriculum. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to teach additional courses, including calculus and/or program offerings in applied mathematics, data science and/or computer science based on the needs of the school. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment and service to the school, college, and university.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment; preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., or those with a combination of professional experience and education that provide commensurate qualifications. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in and commitment to teaching mathematics to undergraduate students. Applicants with training in mathematics education research, guided inquiry techniques, developmental mathematics curricula, and/or experience teaching introductory mathematics for life and health science majors are especially encouraged to apply. We especially welcome applications from candidates with demonstrated interest in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice issues.
