Job Title: Assistant Winemaker

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Head Winemaker, the Assistant Winemaker will oversee and perform all tasks related to cellar operations, encompassing the receipt of juice and grapes, fermentation, aging, barrel maintenance, and finishing. This role carries the crucial responsibility of upholding the bulk inventory's quality and managing the barrel warehouse's daily operations for all brands, in addition to meticulously documenting all internal wine movements. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for wine.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Winemaker in all aspects of winemaking, from grape selection to bottling.
• Perform all cellar tasks as directed by the Head Winemaker (racking, transferring, chemical additions, blending, filtering, etc.).
• Operate and maintain winery equipment, such as crush equipment, pumps, and filters.
• Monitor and control the fermentation process, including temperature control and yeast inoculation.
• Conduct chemical and sensory analysis of wine, including pH, alcohol, free SO2,and acidity.
• Help manage the aging process, including barrel selection and maintenance (SO2adds/topping).
• Ensure that all equipment, tanks, fittings, and facilities are clean and sanitized per SOPs.
• Assist in blending, finishing, and bottling wine.
• Manage production of home winemaking juice

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Viticulture and Enology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.

1-3 years of experience in a winemaking/enology role, including experience with fermentation, aging, and bottling or related experience.

Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Basic mathematical skills

Physical Demands:

While fulfilling job responsibilities, the employee will need to stand, walk, use their hands, and reach with their arms. Additionally, the employee may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While sitting may be infrequent, lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds may be necessary. The ability to work long hours during the peak season may be required.

Working Conditions:

The Assistant Winemaker will spend much of their time in the winery, which can be noisy and require working in a variety of temperatures and conditions. They may also be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions to manage outdoor tanks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
