The Associate Director, Accounting functions as an integral member of the team and is responsible for overseeing the following areas within General Accounting:, cash management, SG&A, Taxes, stand-alone financial statements, and other management reports for multiple business units within Optum Washington. Manages the day-to-day operations of the Shared Services and SG&A teams, as well as the training, supervision and review of accounting staff assigned to duties within the function. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an outstanding ability to build relationships with the lane leads, senior management, and peers. You have an interest and ability to take charge of various accounting processes and projects, while driving efficiencies and standardization. You desire to play a critical role in regional growth and strategy. You are self-motivated, detail oriented and have a commitment to continuous improvement. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, complex environment. You pay great attention to detail and deliver results under deadlines as well as working effectively cross-functionally in a rapidly changing environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the revenue and all clinical SG&A accounting lanes for the clinics, including GL close, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, monthly estimates and explanations
- Leading future integration projects and initiatives
- Monitoring balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness via the account reconciliation process. Monthly sign offs of balance sheet prior to close
- Partnering with the leadership team on regional strategy, projects, acquisitions, and growth
- Leading the team through change in a positive and intentional way, with a focus on staff development and team building
- Analyzing monthly performance and variance analysis, including monthly trends, YoY, MoM, etc.
- Partnering with regional finance on forecasting, variance analysis, budget preparation, and monthly reporting needs
- Maintaining and supporting financial internal control environment, including documentation and self-testing
- Integrating new businesses
- Participating in regional leadership meetings and initiatives
- Liaising with OptumCare and Care Delivery Finance and local market executive management
- Collaborating with other functional areas within OptumCare: Care Delivery FP&A, Financial Data Management, General Operations
- Monitoring and proactively tracking risks and opportunities
- Providing operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, and various applicable rules and regulations
- Supporting the Company's strategic and operational planning initiatives, as applicable
- Managing, mentoring and assisting staff
- Ad hoc and special project ownership

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 10+ years of progressive work experience in accounting
- 7+ years past management / supervisory experience
- Solid technical knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and management to drive sound business decisions
- Experience in the financial close process and general understanding of underlying complexities
- Demonstrates proficiency in practical application of internal control skills
- Dedication to leadership and team development
- Ability to work in a matrix environment
- Ability to effectively summarize and articulate financial results
- Excellent PC skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other financial reporting tools
Preferred Qualification:
- CPA / CMA or other equivalent licensure or certification

The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
