GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Associate General Counsel, Development is an essential contributor to the growth of our Company, responsible for providing legal counsel and support to the Company's real estate and franchising operations. This includes drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases, SDNAs and estoppels, reviewing and advising on franchise leases, drafting, reviewing and negotiating franchise agreements and development agreements, and asset sale agreements.

FOCUS

Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate commercial real estate leases, SDNAs and estoppels to support the Company’s lease portfolio management function
• Review and advise on franchise leases to support new market and new site development
• Draft, review and negotiate franchise agreements, development agreements and asset purchase agreements
• Advise development and franchise teams on franchise agreement compliance
• Other responsibilities as reasonably requested

PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

• Must have the ability/stamina to work a minimum of 45 hours a week
• Will frequently key in data
• Must be able to engage in problem-solving skills to help identify and solve potential issues in the field
• Must be able to communicate heavily through telephone, e-mail, video conferencing, Microsoft teams, text/SMS, present at meetings, and other in-person communications

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND BEHAVIORS

• Must represent the Potbelly Advantage and Our Values
• JD from an accredited law school
• 5+ years of experience in franchise law and/or real estate
• Strong understanding of the restaurant industry
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Must have the ability to travel domestically as needed
