Job description • Correctional Officers are responsible for the supervision, care, custody, control, and physical restraint, when necessary, of inmates in a Correctional Institution or facility. Correctional Officers oversee and monitor the activities of the inmates in living areas, recreation activities areas, dining areas, and visitation areas. While coordinating and monitoring inmate movements, conducting counts, and providing emergency response as needed all while maintaining a safe and orderly environment. Correctional Officers MUST be able to work as a team and coordinate activities with fellow officers and supervisors. • No prior experience is necessary, all training is provided. • As a recruit, you will attend a 12-week academy to prepare you for a career as a Correctional Officer. Courses include firearms training, defensive tactics, first aid, and more. While attending the academy recruits can typically expect 8.5 hours a day Monday-Friday. Recruits will return to their own residence and are not required to stay overnight. Upon completion, the recruit must take and pass the State Officer Certification Exam. This career is ideal for someone who is: • Dependable -- more reliable than spontaneous • People-oriented -- enjoys interacting with people and working on group projects. • Adaptable/flexible -- enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in direction. • High-stress tolerance -- thrives in a high-pressure environment. Qualifications: • Be at least 18 years of age (no maximum age restriction) • Be a United States Citizen • Be able to read and write English • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. • Possess a valid driver’s license. • Pass a drug test and physical examination. • Pass a background investigation and fingerprinting, which includes no felony convictions; no misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement; no misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence. • Must demonstrate good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation. The Correctional Officer will be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for inmates and staff. This includes enforcing prison rules, investigating crimes, supervising the activity of inmates, conducting body searches and executing the appropriate disciplinary action as needed. The Correctional Officer will also be needed to perform other related duties as assigned by the Warden.
Responsibilities:
- Serve food to inmates.
- Assist with the maintenance of order within the facility including preventing violence and enforcing the rules of conduct.
- Monitor the actions of inmates in a way that ensures the safety and security of other inmates, staff, visitors and the community.
- Perform searches of inmates and their living quarters for contraband.
- Cover security posts; provide security when on patrol..
