AGENCY DESCRIPTION AND MISSION:

Our mission at the SASHA CENTER is to increase awareness, provide resources and educate the public about sexual assault, provide culturally specific peer support groups to self-identified survivors of rape and to increase justice and visibility for survivors in Southeast Michigan.

SASHA CENTER is a culturally specific sexual assault organization providing prevention and educational/support groups to survivors of sexual assault. SASHA Center focuses intentionally and specifically on the African American community.

SASHA Center’s primary programming is the provision of support group services across all intersections (race, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, gender or gender expression, education, age, ability, work status, and any other marker of difference). Our goals and intent are to provide a safe space for Black/African American women to explore the negative impact of sexual assault, increase capacity for coping with multiple issues related to their sexual assault, integrate feelings of shame and guilt, place blame where it belongs and decrease feelings of isolation. Additionally, we offer linkage and referral for support services (i.e. behavioral health, emergency, transition and permanent housing; legal services; employment and vocational services).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Mental Health Wellness Connection Project of SASHA Center, Inc will provide behavioral health navigator services to survivors of sexual assault to link them to mental health, substance abuse, primary health care services and other community resources as needed.

SASHA Center is located in Detroit, Michigan and services of this project will be provided to sexual assault survivors residing in that geographical area.

Type of work: HYBRIDIt is anticipated that 85% to 90% of the work will be conducted remotely and 1010 to 15% may require in-person contact

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assesses and evaluates the needs and requirements of sexual assault survivors’ to achieve and/or maintain optimal mental health wellness state by assessing their emotional, mental and resource needs in collaboration with the program supervisor and the identified service provider(s).

- Coordinates and links project participants to medical, behavioral, and other services as appropriate.- Provides referrals, assessments and screenings, service planning, linkage and referral to external mental health, substance use disorder and primary health care services. The primary objective is to link survivors with the appropriate service providers thus the Behavioral Health Navigator is not expected to and provide counseling or therapy.

- Responsible for thoroughly and accurately documenting service encounters with project participants and service provider, activities, and interventions as well as demographic information for project improvement and evaluation.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS:

Qualified applicants will understand the challenges that African American sexual assault survivors face in dealing with emotional and mental health challenges, understand how to connect them with resources and to provide services in the community.

Education: BA/BS in a counseling field (social work, counselling, and psychology) is preferred but not required if there is sufficient work experience of 2 to 4 years providing case management/care coordination or navigator services.

EXPERIENCE:- Knowledge and experience working with survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence.

- Knowledge of local community resources and social services in the Detroit Metropolitan area and experience providing access to those services is essential.

- Knowledge of public entitlement and other programs including but not limited to health insurance - Medicaid, Medicare, 3rd party insurance, food assistance, childcare assistance in the State of Michigan.- Prion experience in case management, care coordination or patient navigator services.

COMPENSATION:$26 to $30 per hour
