Purpose:

The Benefits Specialist provides customer service and benefits program support for the administration of all Floor & Decor benefits, wellness, flexible spending and health savings accounts, leaves of absence, voluntary programs, and the 401K retirement plan. The specialist interacts with associates, managers, HR/payroll/IT/legal/finance, etc. and third-party vendors to administer all health and welfare and retirement programs including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, COBRA, and wellness initiatives while ensuring programs comply with laws and regulations as well as F&D policies and procedures.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience with employee benefits and retirement programs required
  • Must have experience with Leave of Absence programs.
  • Experience with Workday or other HRIS system
  • Knowledge of health and welfare programs
  • Knowledge of wellness programs
  • Knowledge of retirement programs
  • Knowledge of applicable benefit laws (COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and FMLA)
  • Intermediate or expert level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Customer service orientation and skills to cope with and resolve interpersonal conflict under stressful situations with sensitivity and assertiveness
  • Skill and ability to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and operate with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Mathematical skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities
  • Professional certification in benefits (CEBS) and/or human resources (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures.

  • Monitors, reviews and handles benefit enrollments and escalations, qualified life events & 401K inquiries via internal and external portals and systems
  • Serves as the first point of contact for associates benefit inquiries and questions about plan design and program changes
  • Reviews, assesses and provides guidance and direction to resolve inquiries within benefit program guidelines
  • Interprets and applies benefits plans and policies to resolve individual benefits claims
  • Understands and ensures compliance with ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA regulations
  • Communicates with new hires regarding benefits and wellness programs and enrollment through such communication channels as telephone, email, virtual and/or on-site meetings (e.g., annual open enrollment health fest meetings and wellness initiatives)
  • Drafts communications and provides feedback on content created by other Benefits teammates & stakeholders
  • Assists with new hire orientations, annual open enrollment and other benefits campaigns
  • Works closely with Payroll on associate benefits deductions and invoices
  • Monitors COBRA and health savings plan enrollments through third-party vendor
  • Responds to error reports from third-party vendor integration files
  • Advocates wellness program initiatives and other associate engagement strategies
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other team members to share knowledge, provide functional support and ensure continuity of services
  • Executes quality assurance testing of new processes, performs quality checks of benefits-related data
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information
  • Effectively supports the centralized leave of absence team with any Benefits related inquiries
  • Provides reporting support as needed for billing, invoicing, leadership dashboards, case management, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business
