Why We Want You:
The DHR Employee Benefits Unit (EBU) manages and administers the State of Colorado employee benefits plans, and ensures compliance with federal and state laws, state statute and state personnel rules. The Benefits Technician II will provide technical support in the EBU regarding enrollment and eligibility for benefits administrators and benefit eligible employees throughout the State of Colorado. This involves following established procedures around federal regulations, state statutes and personnel rules, as well as plan documents.
A summary of the responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Respond to phone calls and emails from employees as well as Agency Benefits Administrators regarding eligibility, enrollment, and documentation.-
Work within the Benefits Administration System (BAS) to investigate and review inquiries from Agency Benefits Administrators. Verify coverage in vendor portals . Work with payroll and accounting departments on issues that may arise.

Assist with the administration of the State of Colorado’s Medical Insurance Premium Supplement Program. Monitor applications throughout the application period.

Perform and assist with audits

Assist with Unit projects as needed.

Schedules and attends meetings as requested by the Employee Benefits Director and Director of Employee Benefits Contracts, including coordinating all meeting materials and any official functions, takes meeting notes and provides them to participants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
At least two years of business administration or customer service experience OR appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position
- Ability to work with Benefit Solver, Microsoft Word and Excel, and the Google Suite
- Technical benefit processing experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with people both verbally and in writing.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independent and as a contributing team member.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to perform well under the pressure of multiple deadlines
- Proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Possess research skills as well as critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex information.
Conditions of Employment:
A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
