Full-Time Equivalency: Fulltime, Non-exempt

Compensation: $18.50/hr

Position Summary

Provide trauma-informed crisis counseling, advocacy, and culturally competent case management services for individuals and families in the Kathleen Robison Huntsman Apartments (KRH) transitional housing programs at the YWCA Utah.


Essential Job functions

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis counseling, advocacy, and coaching to women, men and families in crisis due to domestic and/or sexual violence in order to achieve a client-based plan for self-sufficiency and safety.
  • Participate in all required Sanctuary, race and gender equity trainings and meetings.
  • Support each program participant in achieving their plan with courteous, timely and meaningful help.
  • Complete case management meetings including but not limited to: assessment for danger, plan for safety, guide toward appropriate resources, provide emotional support, advocate through system issues
  • Ensure safety of everyone by monitoring security and intervening in crises as indicated.
  • Support program participants in achieving their self-determined program goals through empathic listening and presence, providing individualized case management and referrals to supportive services within and outside the YWCA; track progress in meeting plan for self-sufficiency and safety and including:
  • Establish case files while focusing on good documentation
  • Assist with documents necessary for section 42 compliance
  • Conduct required initial intake and exit assessments
  • Provide information/referral and provide/arrange translation and interpretation as necessary.
  • Advocate for the access and use of resources and referrals.
  • Provide direct assistance to the Property Manager in addressing behavior issues related to lease requirements.
  • Coordinate linkages with community agencies on individual and program level.
  • Coordinate therapeutic services for adults and children in order to help minimize the impact of violence in their lives, including maintaining contact with therapists and clinicians.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Contact agencies/individuals providing services to clients to assure optimum coordination and appropriate referrals. Obtain signed releases for coordination of services.
  • Provide aftercare services to families and individuals as needed after they have left the housing programs.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to understanding and using Sanctuary Model principles, language, and tools in daily work.
  • Model YWCA community standards and encourage program participants and other staff to follow them.
  • Understand and follow all established organizational and program related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Keep all records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, contractual, and legal requirements. Records are expected to be complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Satisfactorily perform all duties outlined in this job description.
  • Maintain all certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Permit, LCSW/CSW/SSW, etc.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, individual and/or group supervision, agency-wide staff and other trainings, as well as any other meetings and activities as requested.
  • Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff to protect the safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors.

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Knowledge and experience in administrative and/or non-profit operations, programs, policies and protocols.

  • Understanding of equity, anti-oppression and trauma-informed philosophies.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited human service related area SSW Preferred.
    Or another closely related field plus 1-2 years’ experience in Case Management.
    Or Associates degree from an accredited college plus 3 or more years’ experience.
    Or High school diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant demonstrated experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct service experience with adults and children
  • An understanding of, and agreement with, YWCA Utah’s mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and commitment to anti-oppression work and social justice.
  • Knowledge and skills in direct individual and group social services, including effective communication, crisis intervention, knowledge of women and children's issues, human behavior and community resources.
  • Knowledge about the issue of domestic and sexual violence and about child development (through adolescence) helpful. Knowledge of and/or experience in substance use, mental health, and chronic homelessness helpful and preferred. Work experience in these areas preferred.
  • Committed to providing excellent, trauma informed direct services to adults and children who have experienced domestic violence.
  • Understanding and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and anti-racism.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis, some weekends and evenings required.
  • Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems and technology.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established timeframe.
  • Demonstrated experience functioning within multidisciplinary settings.
  • Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
  • Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • If driving on business, a valid Utah driver’s license, access to an automobile, and valid auto insurance required.
  • Must be able to pass BCI, meet I-9 requirements, and, if driving on agency business, a valid Utah driver’s license, automobile insurance and motor vehicle record.

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.
