POSITION SUMMARY: BILLING DOCUMENTATION AUDITOR
AMS is currently seeking an experienced Billing Documentation Auditor to join the team in our Chappaqua, NY office. This professional will report directly to the Compliance Officer. The Billing Documentation Auditor’s primary responsibility is to support the company’s overall billing compliance program. This individual will perform chart reviews to ensure accurate and complete coding for anesthesia billing. The Documentation Auditor will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of documentation required for billing, will review both handwritten and electronic charts, and identify gaps.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday
Location: Hybrid, 3 days onsite
Salary range: 60k – 110k (salary commensurate)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts anesthesia chart reviews for completeness, quality, and billing purposes
- Facilitates clarification of documentation to support coding and interacts with anesthesia providers to ensure accuracy in the patient record
- Communicates the results of chart reviews to appropriate anesthesia providers and provides education related to billing compliance matters
- Conducts periodic reviews of AMA coding staff to identify and address patterns of billing and coding gaps and provides recommendations and education to optimize
- Conducts periodic audits designed to identify coding discrepancies that result in potential over or under billing.
- Assists the Compliance Officer in addressing concerns brought forward by AMS staff either through the confidential lockbox or through other mechanisms.
- Assists the Compliance Officer in completing special requests, including requests for Case Logs
- Keeps up to date on industry trends, patterns, and industry updates to assess applicability to the organization
- Serves as an expert resource on payor documentation and medical necessity policies
- Leverages multiple internal and external software systems and portals to complete documentation research and reviews
- Other job-related duties as assigned
- Capable of providing training and guidance to coding staff to ensure that all CPT and ICD10 codes billed are appropriate and supported by documentation in the patient record.
- Maintains a high standard of professional conduct at all times
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification requirement: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coding (AAPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Experience with auditing and monitoring clinical records and documentation
- Minimum two years of professional coding experience; anesthesia or surgical coding highly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and CPT and ICD10 coding guidelines

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
