Your Role and Responsibilities
The Business Development Executive (BDE) will be responsible for identifying, researching, and developing adjacent and emerging opportunities to enable top Fortune 500 companies in the Canada Market. The BDE is sought as an industry expert and should be well-versed across at least 2 or more security domains (strategy, risk & compliance, identity & access management, data & application, cloud, infrastructure & endpoint, testing and vulnerability management, threat intelligence) to best understand and help IBM’s customers solve complex problems in their digital transformation journey.
The BDE should understand the competitive landscape, market dynamics, and product and technology trends, and exhibit exceptional business insight to create great end to end customer experiences including technology services that open new growth opportunities (Application Modernization and Cloud Transformation) and innovations in business models and partner alliances. The BDE will lead opportunities that range in value from $1M to $50M along with cross-disciplined teams including sales, services, ecosystem partners and alliances, thought leaders/industry experts, marketing, finance, and legal to help IBM’s customers to solve complex IT and cybersecurity problems and meet business needs.
The BDE should have the ability to influence and drive results in a complex, rapidly evolving, and competitive environment by effectively communicating and influencing senior executives like Board of Directors, CEO, CFO, CIO, CISO, VP, and evaluation committees. The BDE must be able to demonstrate deep understanding of the customer’s business, organization, culture, pain points and compelling reasons to act. The BDE should be able to create, articulate, and sell an innovative business vision and value proposition. They should use the full capabilities of the IBM so that customer executives clearly grasp the short and long-term business and financial value of a relationship with IBM.
In this role you will be able to have a strong point-of-view on securing our customer’s journey to becoming a hybrid-cloud and cognitive enterprise which in turn will drive meaningful Services revenue for IBM.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 6+ years of experience in two or more of the following: business development, consulting, marketing, sales, partner management, finance, legal, product development/software engineering experience, or external-facing engagement with customers/partners.
- Demonstrated capability spotting new trends in technology early based on industry and technology understanding.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and networking skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems technology, cybersecurity, business administration, or related field.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- 6+ years of experience in two or more of the following: business development, consulting, marketing, sales, partner management, finance, legal, product development/software engineering experience, or external-facing engagement with customers/partners.
- 3+ years of experience leading Business Development efforts with proven success driving industry leading partnerships, including structuring, influencing/negotiating, and managing complex commercial deals.
- Demonstrated capability spotting new trends in technology early based on industry and technology understanding.
- Technical acumen with strong knowledge of modern technologies like Cloud and AI.
- Market development expertise and deep analytical and business modeling skills.
- Master’s degree in computer science, information systems technology, cybersecurity, business administration (MBA) or related field.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan. Your actual base pay plus incentive opportunity will be determined by the Incentive Plan assigned to you.
