In this role as a Calibration / Metrology Technician III , you will be part of a team providing calibration of test and measurement equipment in research, development, and manufacturing environments. The role will report to a Quality Engineering Manager in the site Operations Quality organization. This role is an on-site role at our Medtronic Santa Ana facility.

A Day in the Life
As a Calibration / Metrology Technician III , you will collaborate with fellow Technicians and Engineers in the inspection and testing of electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devices and computer software. You will provide technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Using schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. You will gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulae and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Perform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units using reference standards.
- Calibrate electronic test measuring equipment and signal generating equipment to conform to set standards and maintains standards.
- Test, calibrate, adjust, and maintain electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydro mechanical, and pressure-type measuring and indicating instruments.
- Set up calibration sequences, methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements.
- Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and replaces defective parts of test equipment such as pressure gauges and tension meters.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- May require travel to other location up to 30 miles.
- Work overtime when necessary to support high priority request.
- Work with equipment user engineers and technicians in the proper selection of test and measurement equipment.
- Support Out of Tolerance (OOT) and Non-conformance (NC) for equipment owned by the calibration laboratory.
- Work with external calibration service providers with scheduling, supervising their work and reviewing the certificates.
- Maintain documentation and quality records.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support operations, R&D, and inspections solving.
Must Have – Minimum Requirements

- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant testing, manufacturing or calibration experience and may require vocational or technical education and advanced certification in addition to prior work experience
- Strong quality mindset and attention to detail required.
- Good verbal and written communication.
Nice to Have
- Two years of electronic or physical calibration-related technical school training (60 semester credits) to preferably include metrology and calibration, or equivalent military education such as Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) or like training.
- ASQ Certified Calibration Technician.
- Strong math and physics background.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Windows OS.
- Knowledge of calibration equipment standards to include test uncertainty ratio and test accuracy ratio analysis.
- Familiar with these regulations: FDA 21 CFR Part 820 cGMP, ISO 13485, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of lean and continuous improvement methodologies; Green Belt, Six Sigma, etc.
- Ability to work on assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
- Problem solving skills such as Six Sigma DMAIC.
- Experience with ERP system such as SAP.
