The RBS Office of Career Management (OCM) works with students to prepare them to be competitive candidates in the job market. Performing mock interviews, resume reviews, career fairs, and more, OCM is a resource that helps students build the skills necessary to secure internships and full-time opportunities. Through career-related advising, resources, and programs, we help students effectively market their value to prospective employers and pursue their post-graduate goals. Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Career Counseling Office. Reports directly to the Director, RBS Graduate Office of Career Management at the Rutgers Business School performing career counseling, including individual and group career counseling to students in the Master of Quantitative Finance (MQF) and Master in Business of Fashion (MSBF) programs. Based in Newark, NJ this position works closely with the staff and faculty of the MQF and MSBF programs as well as the other career management offices at Rutgers Business School and Rutgers University in New Brunswick and Newark.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.

- Interfaces with the Office of International Student and Scholar Services
- Represents the program and RBS at external events
- Administers and interprets career assessment instruments, and designs and implements workshops that help MQF, MSBF and other graduate students with their career management process
- Assists and provides backup support for other programs within RBS OCM
- Maintains and develops relationships with employers that recruit from the programs
- Enhances and establishes relationships with industry professionals and alumni to serve as mentors or as potential employers
- Connects current students and alumni
- Organizes networking events, seminars, and career fairs for program students
- Tracks and reports student success stories and career placement after graduation
- Background in finance and experience in the financial industry is preferred
- Travel among regional campuses is required
- Travel to industry and corporate events may be required

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, counseling, human resources, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, and a minimum of two years experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career counseling theories and methodologies for individuals and groups
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have the appropriate qualifying education and/or experience to administer and interpret career assessment instruments
- Also requires outstanding communication skills and computer literacy
- Required open office hours one evening per week
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in business, counseling or human resources is encouraged
- Experience in working with the Financial Services field is preferred
- Outstanding communication and organization skills are preferred
- Experience with employment processes for international students is a plus
Equipment Utilized
- Utilizes MS Office, Outlook and Career management system.
- Use Excel for data analysis and reporting
- Use social media (LinkedIn, Twitter…) to connect and communicate with students, alumni and employers
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Expected to attend networking and career-related daytime and evening events in the tri-state area
- Also expected to travel to other Rutgers campuses when necessary for meetings and events
- Occasional weekends, evenings, and early mornings
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs
- International travel is possible

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
