Description
Under the general supervision of the Carpenter Master Foreman, supervises and performs skilled work as a Journeyman Carpenter and Project Foreman in the maintenance, repair and extension of rough and finished carpentry work in school buildings and facilities. This is highly skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of specialized carpentry maintenance, installation and repair operations. General assignments are received from Supervisors, but Carpenter II(s) are expected to plan details of each job and carry it to completion without immediate supervision. Work involves independent judgment in assigning duties and selecting carpentry methods to meet job requirements. Supervision is often exercised over the work of Trades Helpers and Carpenters I. This class differs from Carpenters I due to the supervision exercised over various projects, including planning, scheduling and procuring materials.
This is a ACE/AFSCME, Local 2250 Position - Pay Table 200 - Grade 18
Hourly Range: $24.58 - $48.97

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Makes and repairs cabinets, desks, tables and other office furniture;
Repairs doors, locks, and hardware;
Makes and repairs window frames and sashes; makes and repairs partitions, covering with dry wall and paneling; Operates woodworking machinery;
Applies spackling to seams and nail heads;
Installs ceilings;
Lays various types of floors and floor covering;
Builds forms for pouring concrete;
Supervises the work of Carpenters I and Trades Helpers; and
Performs related work as required.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the common practices, codes, standards, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the trade;
Ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral instructions; ability to estimate time and materials needed;
Ability to operate common woodworking machinery;
Ability to lay out work for self and others;
Ability to rig and work from scaffolds; and
Willingness to work day or evening hours as required; good physical condition.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of high school, standard vocational school course(s), GED or recognized apprenticeship in the trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; considerable experience as a journeyman carpenter, some of which shall have been at the level of a Carpenter I.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
None required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
