Category Management

Category Management is a critical function in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industry, where it involves the analysis, planning and execution of strategies to maximize the profitability and growth of a specific category of products. Not to be confused with sales, as Category Management and Sales Roles are two distinct functions within the CPG industry.

The Category & Insights Consultant Seasons position works as a category consultant to Hershey and Dollar General advising total category solutions to meet and exceed Hershey and Dollar General category objectives. The Category & Insights Consultant will be an expert in the pervasive application of insights to fuel retail growth.


Role Responsibilities:

Dollar General (DG) Seasons Category Captain

  • The Indispensable Category Partner to the DG Senior Buyer and Assistant Buyer
  • Works with Hershey Seasonal Category Consultant to drive strategy

Responsibilities:

  • Support the retailer teams with development and execution
  • Serve as an expert across the organization
  • Drive Seasonal strategy, tracking and analysis across the organization
  • Analyze merch mixes to forecast performance
  • Pilot new capabilities to drive total solutions
  • Assist with Seasonal POG lifecycle
  • Be the expert with the seasonal order writing process and act as the bridge between the retailer teams and development team
  • Analyze data and trends to develop a DART Strategic Framework
  • Complete cross-functional projects with internal teams such as sales, category management, marketing, shopper insights and demand planning
  • Develop and present seasonal content directly to retailers
  • Utilize strong technical skills to gather, and present complex data

  • Category Management experience (3-5 years)
  • Knowledge of Category Management processes and CPG Industry trends
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

25% travel required.
