The MA performs nursing skills under the supervision of the physician and registered nursing staff in order to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure patient safety and timely patient flow during visits.

1. Knowledge of medical terminology
2. Knowledge of EMR charting
3. High school diploma; some college preferred
4. Medical Assistant certification
5. BLS certification

Responsibilities:

1. Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, discontinuing IVs and document pertinent information in patient’s chart.

2. Ensure all related reports and information are available in the patient’s chart prior to the start of the surgical procedure.

3. Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to administrator, nurse manager, and/or the physicians.

4. Review discharge instructions with patients prior to the surgical procedure as instructed by the physician.

5. Keep exam rooms and operating room stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.

6. Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations, administering eye drops, obtain blood sugar levels. Completing pre/post op calls.

7. Fill in supportive roles as needed. Transporting patients from pre-op to the OR, assisting in the OR as needed.
