Primary Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager and Senior Radiologic Technologist, performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Operates x-ray equipment in accordance with age related and special needs in the planning and delivery of patient care. Practices radiation safety at all times.

Essential Duties

• Operates fixed and portable x-ray and fluoroscopic units and considers age-related and special needs in the planning and delivery of patient care.
• Performs OR procedures such as hip pinning, cholangiograms, closed and open reductions and C arm.
• Ensures proper handling of digital imaging cassette plates.
• Demonstrates adaptability to other modalities.
• Performs all phases of office procedures, registration, charges and scheduling.
• Maintains equipment and supplies, schedules repairs and order supplies as necessary.

Other Duties

• Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures and Hospital’s Legal Compliance Program.
• Ensures work area is clean, stocked and maintained.
• Attends required departmental meetings and in-services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:

• Ability to work in two (2) or more imaging modalities competently. CT and X-ray modalities preferred. Paid CT cross training available for those with ARRT license.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge and skills necessary to plan and provide care appropriate to the age and special needs of the patients to be served.
• Good communication skills and able to read, write and speak the English language sufficiently to performs the duties of the position.
• Ability to deal tactfully and responsively with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, physicians, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Employment is subject to being completely vaccinated or having a WGH approved COVID-19 Vaccine Exemption prior to providing services for the facility.

Education:

• High school graduate; BS degree preferred.
• Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained.
• Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• Current BCLS certification.

License:

• Licensed by the State of Hawaii.
• Possess additional licensure/registry to perform a second imaging modality.

Experience:

• Preferably one (1) year of experience under a Board Certified Radiologist.

Working Conditions

• Air conditioned office environment.
• Required to work in dark room with no lights.
• May be exposed to odorous/explosive chemicals, gases, low level radiation, electrical and radiant energy hazards, infections and contagious diseases; anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes.
• Workplace may be fast; full days with few breaks.
• Frequently works beyond normal working hours.
• May be required to travel to outside offices.
• Interacts with other departments/personnel and outside parties.

Equipment Use

• General office equipment; radiology equipment.
• Use of personal protective equipment: eye/face protection; gown; apron; mask, medical/utility gloves.

Mental and Physical Demands

• May lift of up to 50 pounds; carry up to 40 pounds; push/pull up to 75 pounds with assistance.
