Cal-Ore life Flight, a Global Medical Response Solution, is a leading provider of air medical transportation services along California's Redwood Coast. Based out of the California/Oregon border area, Cal-Ore Life Flight operates a fleet of King Air C90s and 200s providing safe, professional and expedient air medical transportation to a general service radius spanning Portland, OR, Reno, NV, and the San Francisco Bay area.

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the FAA Director of Operations, the Cal-Ore Life Flight Chief Pilot is accountable for the comprehensive delivery of aviation services across the Cal-Ore Life Flight fleet. Overall responsibilities include day-to-day operations of the flight department, staffing, scheduling, problem resolution, and collaboration with maintenance, clinical teams and operations to ensure safe, efficient and consistent flight operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages and maintains all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Pilot in Command job description.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of the General Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, Airman's Information Manual, King Air systems/operating procedures, applicable accreditation requirements,and applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Actively assist in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring and discharging of flight personnel.
  • Creates and revises the monthly pilot schedules.
  • Schedule pilots for travel, training, and other duties as necessary.
  • Assist in the creation of new policies/procedures, and review existing policies/procedures to improve operations.
  • Administers coaching, mentoring and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Direct and/or administer pilot flight and ground training
  • Ensures line pilots are provided with a current FAR/AIM, GOM and pertinent operational information as prescribed in FAR 135.83
  • Ensure that both new and existing pilots are given a thorough orientation of facilities, fueling procedures, parking locations, crew vehicles, driving directions, new operational requirements and other pertinent information that will aid pilots in transitioning to new operational regions.
  • Other regional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and experience preferred.
  • 3000 hours PIC hours; 500 hours of night experience; 200 hours of IFR experience.
  • Single Pilot IFR experience.
  • Preference is given to applicants who have an ATP rating.
  • Commercial rated multi-engine airplane, previous management to include employee supervision, budgetary and safety.
  • Highly knowledgeable of the Operations Manual, FARs, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, etc., and other instructions pertinent to flight operations.
  • Ability to think strategically while attending to details.
  • Skills in observations, assessment and creative problems solving.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and persuasively both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure, work effectively and accurately with frequent interruptions, and set and reset multiple priorities.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Team building skills.
  • Current Class II Medical Certificate.

  • Willingness to work overtime, evenings, and weekends (if required), as well as function as an air ambulance pilot as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Involves a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Ability to conduct activities requiring a moderate to rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling and lifting (knuckle height and ankle height).
  • Capable of lifting 75 pounds floor to bench height.
  • Ability to hear routine aircraft and medical equipment noises.
  • Maintains a "duty" weight of less than 250 lbs (body weight + uniform/equip.).
  • Must be able to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit, when required.
  • Requires close and distant visual capability.
  • Periodic hands to key ability (typing).
  • Must maintain annual FAA Class 2 Medical certificate.


Environment Conditions:
  • The FW Pilot duties are performed in either indoor or outdoor environments.
  • The FW Pilot may be exposed to routine office noises, moderate electrical or mechanical hazards and frequent exposure to an aircrafthangar environment where the FW Pilot may be exposed to loud aircraft noise, fumes, gases, odors,dust particles and mechanical/electrical and chemical hazards. The FW Pilot must be present at work site tocomplete the job.

Protective Equipment:
  • Nomex full body flight suit, and leather or Nomex boots during all flight operations.
  • PPE - latex gloves, goggles and HEPA mask.
  • Hearing protection (plugs, band or headset).

Workplace Conditions:

An airport office will be designated for this position. In addition, remote location (working from home) will also be allowed based upon mutual agreement.

Work Schedule:

It is anticipated that this will be a five day per week position with some after-hours availability to be on call to the company pilot group. The on call will be shared with the Director of Operations.

Reporting Relationship:

The Chief Pilot reports directly to the Director of Operations.
