General Description (Purpose and Function) :

Reporting to the Office of Classroom Management Director, the Classroom Systems and Technology Specialist (CSTS) will discover, evaluate, integrate, and develop technologies that can improve education and engagement through the effective use of current and new technology within the General Purpose Classrooms (GPCs). The Office of OCM invites faculty teaching in the GPCs to collaborate, discuss future classroom technological advancements/layouts, and encourage enhanced teaching and learning within the GPCs. The CSTS will develop faculty collaboration strategies, assist with the deployment of the new technology system, and develop assessment models to collect and analyze data that affect teaching and learning across the GPC spaces. The CSTS will develop a technology-training program to assist faculty using the GPC technology. The successful applicant will have to be well organized, have excellent communication skills, work independently with minimal guidance from the Director, and be excited about trying out new technology that might enhance learning.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort) :

  • Acts as first point of contact in troubleshooting technology incidents within the general-purpose classroom (GPC) spaces
  • Provide faculty and other end-users quality customer service in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage, monitor, and verifies completion of all reported OCM-Classroom Support inquiries
  • Manage all software and hardware requirements associated with the GPC classrooms.
  • Support classroom renovation and technology upgrade projects
  • Evaluate new technologies to discover new and better ways to enhance instruction
  • Develop and manage classroom technology training program (e.g., manuals, videos, evaluating learning management systems) based on current and new technology implementations
  • Maintain open a dialogue with faculty teaching in the GPCs to understand their technological needs while providing feedback, assistance, and technological training to enhance the teaching experience
  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Classroom Management and faculty teaching in the GPCs providing solutions to technological issues, training needs, and ideas for technological improvements
  • Assist faculty in discovering methods of improving their instruction with and without technology within the GPC spaces
  • Collect data from faculty through daily interactions, faculty feedback surveys, technology training/in-service feedback sessions, and Crestron Fusion reports to evaluate faculty technological needs and equipment usage in the GPC spaces
  • Evaluate classroom technology solutions to be implemented in the GPCs (e.g., faculty usage, technology feasibility for faculty, and duration of equipment usage), as well as, gather data that will be used in future technology improvement planning and implementaiton for the GPC spaces
  • Research and integrate new technologies into existing systems using feeds and APIs
  • Develop and report on targeted metrics to measure the resulting efficiency/effectiveness of the GPC classroom technology
  • Support the daily operations and ad-hoc projects of the Office of Classroom Management –Classroom Support and Scheduling areas.
  • Build partnerships among academic support units to work collaboratively toward achievement of institutional goals
  • Develop and manage departmental policies and procedures for the advancement of classroom technology and spaces
  • Provide recommendations for upgrades and technology improvements, process enhancements, and system administration improvements
  • Conducts periodic classroom checks, preventative hardware, and software maintenance
  • Serve as back up for on-demand calls handled by AV Technicians for equipment malfunctions and troubleshooting.
  • Assist OCM Director with strategic and budget planning, project management, vendor and inventory management, and facilitating technology implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned

Crestron Fusion Server System Administrator

  • Serve as the Crestron Fusion Server System Administrator managing the accessibility of all Crestron controlled AV equipment on the Coral Gables Campus.
  • Manage Crestron Fusion Server and FTP site firmware updates, system upgrades, patches, and storage
  • Prepare system for server migrations and structural server changes
  • Configure Crestron hardware for server implementation
  • Train, provide access, and manage all Coral Gables Campus departments on the Crestron Fusion Server
  • Coordinate the expansion of additional departments using the server on the Coral Gables Campus
  • Troubleshoot all malfunctioning systems on the server to ensure continuous server accessibility (e.g., develop Crestron Fusion departmental equipment databases and enter system program equipment data)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with faculty and senior leadership
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and balance multiple projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both in written and verbal forms of communication
  • Ability to troubleshoot AV technical equipment issues and challenges
  • Knowledge of system integration, audio manipulation, and network
  • Skills in Crestron Fusion Server management and hardware integration

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements) :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant
  • Proven ability to manage and lead projects
  • Ability to conduct technology focused research
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills are required

Desired Skills

  • At least two years of supervisory and professional experience in classroom audio-visual to faculty and systems
  • Learning or teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • Three to five years of progressive experience working with audiovisual technology and systems including Crestron hardware and Crestron Fusion Server Management, Smart-Shield Enterprise Software, CollegeNET 25Live scheduling, and PeopleSoft.
  • Knowledge of multiple operating system platforms (Windows, MacOS Sierra) and software
  • Knowledge of system-image re-production, lecture capture, mirroring
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in the training development and implementation
  • Experience with systems integration
  • A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Please note annual salary is $53,000.
