Sunflower Friends Early Learning Academy is currently seeking a teacher passionate about early education to work in a classroom for children 6 weeks through 5 years.

Sunflower Friends began as a small family child care program focused on high quality care and education for children 6 weeks and up. The program has grown and changed over the years, expanding to include an outdoor nature classroom and a focus on future accreditation through the NAEYC. Our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for children to learn through play and exploration, for them to become independent learners, and provide support for families and our community. Flexible schedules available Monday-Friday 7:00am-5:00pm

Qualifications and Requirements:

• A high school diploma and 18 years of age or older
• CPR and First Aid training (must be willing to complete within 30 days of hire)
• Willing to have a background check and fingerprinting
• Some experience working with preschool children preferred
• Professional demeanor
• Must comply with applicable laws and rules
• Provide safe and compassionate environment
• Must be registered with Maine’s Professional Development Network Qualifications
• Must participate in ongoing trainings (minimum of 30 hours per year)

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Must be able to work 30 - 40 hours.
• Attend monthly staff meetings.
• Oversee child and classroom needs and activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
• Provide consistent supervision of all children in care.
• Ongoing communication and collaboration with children, families, and other staff members.
• Help to ensure the facility and property is safe and ready for children.

Compensation:

We offer health insurance and competitive salaries, 4 weeks of paid vacation (we follow the school calendar for scheduled closing dates), sick days, training reimbursement, and free child care for staff.

There will be opportunities for further education, professional development, and leadership roles.

Sunflower Friends Early Learning Academy uses the Maine Roads to Quality Career lattice to determine level of pay for teachers. The lattice level is determined by level of education and years of experience.

Our current pay scale for 2022-2023 is:

Level 1 or 2 - $16 per hour

Level 3 or 4 - $17 per hour

Level 5 or 6 - $18 per hour

Level 7 or 8 - $19 per hour
