Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

• Processes medical provider orders for treatments, prescriptions, and procedures; including instructions to patients.
• Performs duties in accordance with the accepted standards of District policy & procedures.
• Duties may include, but are not limited to: handling all patient information in a confidential manner, assisting with in- and out-patient appointment scheduling, obtaining insurance information, maintaining patient files, taking messages, using the copy and fax machine, and using the computer system and printers.
• Brings patients to exam rooms, takes and records vitals.
• Prepare patient for medical examinations and procedures.
• Assists providers with minor surgical procedures.
• Prepare and perform waived laboratory testing in accordance with procedure and manufacturers instructions.
• With appropriate equipment training, duties may include pulmonary function studies, EKG’s, etc. As equipment and training allow.
• Chart phone calls, tests, injections, and prescriptions as certified.
• Document medical information in medical chart as appropriate.
• Log any phone conversations and file messages.
• Properly dispose of Biohazard waste, clean all surface areas in Lab, HCA station and exam rooms as needed.
• Orders medical supplies, inventories and keeps necessary supplies on hand.
• Track samples that are used.
• Demonstrates knowledge of infection control in all client care to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
• Adheres to strict infection control guidelines including hand washing and standard precautions.
• Clean and sterilize medical instruments.
• Reports any and all exposures to infection in accordance with OSHA and District guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge and experience in typing. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Good organizational skills.

Required Education and Certification

§ High School graduate or GED preferred.

§ Current WA State Medical Assistant Certification.

§ Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

§ Current CPR training and certification.

§ Documentation of 7 hours AIDS training.
