Clinical Application Specialist Job at Fond du Lac Reservation
General Summary:
The Quality Assurance Clinic Application Specialist is responsible for providing support on the daily interface between clinicians/medical/dental/behavioral health and substance abuse medical records. To serve as a specialist in the implementation and ongoing support of multi-service clinical software applications used for the Human Service Division Electronic Health Record (EHR). Responsible to assist with deploying new portions of the EHR in specific locations, consulting with information system, and clinical departments in customizing software and workflow process in the daily operation of the EHR system.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the implementation and support of multi-service software packages that automate the capture of clinical encounter information and its subsequent retrieval.
- The clinical application specialist manages the customization of the site parameters and addresses integration issues with other software packages within EHR system.
- Assists in the implementation of new software products obtained by Human Services Division that cover our various functions for electronic health records.
- Coordinates with key staff and other application specialists to implement integrated packages, resolve conflicts, provide secondary support on related software modules, and ensure smooth operations in areas where package scope overlaps or is integrated with other services’ functions.
- Assist in analyzes and evaluation of processes related to information flow.
- Acquires a comprehensive knowledge of the software involved to determine what are procedural issues versus system/application deficiencies.
- Provides training to clinical staff on current software applications and new features, and insures training is scheduled for new users and assists staff in the efficient use of the current software.
- Emphasize timeliness, accuracy, security and the importance of these functions on every other clinical application.
- Develops and implements configuration management plans for each specific program as required. Coordinate with appropriate parties all audits of the EHR.
- Logs all problems, referring those requiring a higher level of technical support to the appropriate person or team.
- Works with programmers in local testing of software, identifying software problems and requesting enhancement.
- Monitors and coordinates efforts to correct deficiencies and errors that occur in the electronic record.
- Serves as liaison between IT, Program Managers, Medical Director, and management concerning these processes.
- Assist with and develop templates for Electronic Health Records system (NextGen).
- Appropriate work attire is required. • Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
- Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in healthcare, human resources, science or similar health related field required.
- 2 years of experience minimum in a health care organization or direct patient care.
- 2 years of experience in clinical applications support in the healthcare industry or degree in Medical Informatics.
- NextGen Certification is required; if not certified at the time of hire, employs must become certified within one year of hire, and must maintain certification for duration of employment.
- 1-2 years of experience and knowledge in Ojibwe heritage, traditions and customs.
- Knowledge of and skills in applying Information Technology concepts, principles, methods, and practices to manage and troubleshoot clinic/human services application programs to support the electronic health record.
- Familiarity with health care and human services laws, regulations and standards.
- Experience serving as a liaison between groups within an organization, as an effective member of organizational teams and in coordinating software implementation projects.
- Advance computer skills including knowledge of software applications such as MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and be knowledgeable in HIPAA or other Data Privacy Laws.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
- Subject to vaccination review and submitted proof of required vaccination.
- Some travel may be required.
