Position Summary

The Clinical Counselor is an integral part of the Beginning Step team. In this role, you would be responsible for conducting assessments with newly admitted clients, conducting group counseling sessions using a combination of process and didactic group frameworks, and managing a caseload of clients with whom you will have one-on-one counseling sessions.

This is a great opportunity for professionals who are new to the field and looking for license supervision and MCBAP certification, and seasoned professionals who are looking to grow their skill set in a growing agency.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Promote a welcoming positive customer service culture for clients, staff, and other stakeholders.

2. Maintain a balanced caseload with an emphasis on the development of environmental and psychosocial needs of early recovery clients.

3. Maintain a clinical caseload of a minimum of 20 billable hours weekly.

4. Complete intakes and assessments utilizing the ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.

5. Ensure all provided services have preapproved insurance authorizations and meet necessary timelines.

6. Counsel individuals regarding psychological or emotional problems related to substance abuse and/or mental health.

7. Provide group facilitation, both didactic and process groups.

8. Provide individual substance abuse counseling utilizing evidence based therapeutic interventions such as Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and CBT.

9. Develop and implement therapeutic treatment and aftercare plans using a client-centered approach.

10. Serve as primary therapist throughout changes in levels of care whenever possible.

11. Maintain client records within the EMR including notes, clinical treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, transfer summaries, ASAMs, discharge summaries, etc.

12. Complete all essential paperwork in a timely manner.

13. Coordinate with client and referral sources for discharge planning.

14. Coordinate with case managers and peer mentors for additional supportive services.

15. Accept increasing responsibilities for professional development of analytical, psycho-social diagnostic skills, and resourcefulness.

16. Interprets agency policies and procedures to assigned clients.

17. Monitors urine specimen activities required for substance abuse analysis.

18. Maintain coordination of care when needed between client and external agencies.

19. May be assigned to serve on in-house committees.

20. Attend weekly clinical case conference and supervision meetings.

21. Maintain confidentiality pertaining to clients and client records that meet 42 CFR and HIPAA regulations.

22. Acquire and maintain all CEU, Adult CPR/First Aid, supplemental training, etc. as required by DWIHN and CARF.

23. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university with a current, valid LMSW or LLMSW (Required).

OR

Master's Degree in Counseling, or a related field, from an accredited college or university and a current, valid LPC (Required).

Strong written and verbal communication skills (Required).

Current and valid Adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to acquire within 60 days of hire (Required)

Passing score on the MAFE/FOADP exam or ability to complete this requirement within 6 months of hire (Required).

Valid driver's license (Required)

Meet Federal, State, and local criminal clearance requirements (Required)

CADC/CAADC (Preferred)

Experience working with dual diagnosed clients (Preferred)

Knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous (Preferred)

Experience facilitating didactic and process groups (Preferred).

Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Required).

Experience working with electronic medical records systems (Preferred).
