Job Description Summary:
The Clinical Research Scholar / Hospitalist faculty position will lead clinical research activities including collecting information from patients, study participants and families and work with multidisciplinary teams to oversee all aspects of clinical research. This position involves the development of teaching materials and lectures, which include didactics and journal club presentations on topics related to research activities with students, residents, and fellows. It is expected that the successful candidate will provide an environment for active learning. This position provides inpatient hospitalist coverage at the discretion of the chair.

This position is expected to be .5 FTE, but may expand based on business needs.

Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
MD or DO training with completion of Internal Medicine or Medicine-Pediatrics residency training

Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching medical students and residents

Job Duties Outlined:
Complete required training to become an active researcher including but not limited to IRB training.

Initiate an investigator initiated clinical study including IRB submission, data collection, data analysis, manuscript write up, and journal submission.

Prepare and submit case studies.

Participate in ongoing clinical research projects (including patient screening and recruitment, informed consent, chart review, data submission, etc.).

As appropriate, review publication-ready manuscripts for the Kansas Journal of Medicine to learn critical review.

Oversee study participant visit activities including scheduling procedures, communicating with subjects, and completing necessary basic study procedures.

Manage regulatory documentation files including correspondence with the sponsor, KUMC IRB, and subjects.

Provide written and verbal reports to the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, as required.

Under the direction of the principal investigator, recruit and educate potential patients for and evaluate potential patient eligibility for studies.

Participate in quality assurance activities by reviewing clinical data in medical record charts, assessing pharmacy compliance with protocol criteria, and reviewing study documentation to ensure compliance.

Work closely with the Research Institute and Human Research Protection Program and have a working knowledge of KUMC policies and procedures.

Reviews and assists with the assessment of research protocols.

Develop and teach lectures, which include didactics and journal club presentations on topics related to research activities with students, residents, and fellows.

Lead and oversee the GI research and GI interest group activities for students and residents.

Provide inpatient Hospitalist coverage at Ascension Via Christi Hospitals and Wesley Medical Center at the discretion of the chair.
