An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology is a teaching, research and clinical care unit within the School of Medicine (SOM). The Department of Neurology is a large, multi-site department, with locations including Mission Bay, Parnassus, Mt. Zion, ZSFG, VAMC and the Gladstone Institutes and is affiliated with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The department is constructed of 14 administrative divisions with 11 clinical specialties. The department has over 230 faculty and academic employees, 260 staff positions, and 150 trainees including: residents (46), clinical fellows (37) and postdoctoral scholars (70). The Department has an annual operating budget in excess of $120M and has been the #1 recipient of NIH funding across all U.S. Departments of Neurology for the past 6 consecutive years, in addition to being the #1 recipient of philanthropic dollars across all departments at UCSF. The UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences (WIN) is a collaborative multi-disciplinary center uniting three highly esteemed UCSF departments – Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neurological Surgery – along with the basic sciences, and the Neuroscience Graduate Program. A donation of $185 million was given by Sandy and Joan Weill to provide the lead investment for the construction of a new 270,000 square-foot building at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus that will serve as WIN’s headquarters. Comprised of nearly 100 UCSF Faculty Members from 15 basic-science departments, WIN’s vision is to solve some of the most complex challenges in the human brain. The building will house state-of-the-art research laboratories, as well as clinics for patients with brain and nervous system disorders. The WIN currently managed through the Department of Neurology.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience including at least one year in a lead/supervisory role.
  • Working knowledge of clinical or laboratory research, clinical trial recruitment, eligibility, protocol adherence, quality data submission and adverse event reporting.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution.
  • Clear and concise communicator; good verbal and written communication skills; both.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Works well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration. Demonstrated experience in training others, particularly in the field of research.
  • Knowledge and experience with ALS clinical trial implementation
