CLINICAL FIELD SPECIALIST, Full-Time (Exempt)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of this position is to provide concurrent Continuous Quality Improvement in the field, including real-time clinical support and mentorship to Paramedics and EMT-Basics. The Clinical Field Specialist (CFS) will carry training equipment. When not on a call, they will assist in e-PCR review and skills-based training. Under the direction of the Field Supervisor and within the ICS system, the CFS may provide medical command and control during major incidents and / or support active Tactical Emergency Medical Services ("TEMS") responses.
EMS CALL RESPONSE :
When in a reasonable and safe response distance from the scene of 911 system emergencies and/or as assigned by Public Safety Communications in accordance with a response list collaboratively developed with input of the LEMSA, the CFS will regularly respond to high acuity or high-risk calls and provide concurrent support, guidance and feedback in a collaborative and "quiet" manner with a focus on all providers engaged in the delivery of patient care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The CFS will provide real-time mobile in-service training to crews while deployed in the field. This training will consist of short burst training such as airway management techniques, invasive skills review, MCI review, and clinical scenario of the quarter, equipment updates, policy/protocol updates.
- The CFS will be proficient in simulation and high fidelity training.
- The CFS will provide real-time interface with system partners regarding patient care matters.
- Enhance both AMR and LEMSA clinical situational awareness (timeliness, quality, quantity of communication.)
- Serves as an extension of medical control in the field in partnership with the AMR and LEMSA medical directors and Base Hospital.
- Support occasional LEMSA Medical Director ride-along.
- Participate in quarterly clinical shifts at the Base Hospital.
- The CFS will participate in classroom instruction for new hire employees, on-going training, coaching and mentorship of all caregivers and during field time to assess effectiveness of training.
- Support the Clinical and Education Services Manager by conducting regular targeted PCR reviews and providing constructive feedback to crews using FirstPass and other tools.
- The CFS will assist in identifying barriers to crews completing PCR's and clearing hospitals pursuant to county policy.
- Make recommendations to the Clinical Education Services Manager and AMR Medical Director based on observations for creation/revision of clinical policy.
- Assist with oversight of clinical aspects of field performance.
- Promptly address observed safety risk(s) to the patient(s) and/or prehospital personnel.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone's responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems.
- Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three (3) years working full-time as a field paramedic in a 911 system
- High School Diploma or GED.
- PHTLS Provider or Instructor certification within one (1) year of hire.
- ACLS Instructor certification within one (1) year of hire.
- PALS Instructor certification within one (1) year of hire.
- ICS 300
- Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) - within 9 months from date of hire
- Advanced Airway Management - within 9 months from date of hire
- CISM Management - within 9 months from date of hire
- Achieve proficiency in the use of MEDS, FirstPass and other clinical data tools
- Current CA State Paramedic License
- San Mateo County Accreditation within thirty (30) days of hire
- Driving record in accordance with AMR policy
- Applicable State Instructor/Coordinator certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Become qualified as an Ambulance Strike Team Leader within one (1) year of hire.
- Experience in performing, evaluating, instructing, and coaching all aspects of the delivery of prehospital care
- Basic knowledge of computers and Windows software.
- Basic knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement concepts and principles.
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
