Responsibilities:

Cloud Engineer for AFWERX, the center of innovation for the Air Force, identifying, acquiring, and integrating innovative capabilities.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

Provide insight into the automation needs and opportunities within AFWERX.
Rapidly automate manual tasks across AFWERX by creating automated data transfer products, eliminating manual checks, and pipelining data for creation of dashboards for end users to surface information.
Develop a prioritized list of projects in collaboration with the users.
Deliver and improve user-facing functionality on a bi-weekly sprint cycle.
Intake new projects and identify expected resource requirements to deliver (e.g. time required by role and any dependencies).
Plan future work via a bi-weekly sprint planning process. Each sprint starts with a sprint planning meeting, where the team reviews the following:
  • Work completed during the previous sprint
  • Any carry-over work for the next sprint
  • Planned new starts for the coming sprint & specific deliverables for each, with each deliverable focused on end-user facing functionality
  • Overall workload for the coming sprint & any adjustments needed
Deliver all work planned in the sprint, including quality assurance, to the end user for user acceptance testing (UAT)

Key responsibilities for work tickets provided by the customer:

4. Conducting thorough quality assurance to ensure the output is accurate and the automation meets specifications
5. Productionize the code in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment
6. Make bug fixes and provide maintenance support for existing code bases

Key Parameters

1. All processes should be designed and built to not need a developer in the loop; users with minimal training should be able to run each process
2. Speed is critical; we are de-risking now by automating, and expect some processes to be superseded in the future (e.g. a new tool could make the code obsolete in 6 - 12 months)
4. Standard code practices should be adhered to, especially regarding documentation
5. All code/tooling must be productionized and housed in the AFWERX GCP environment
6. All work will be customer-led and directed

  • 2-5 years experience
