JMT is seeking a CM / Maintenance Supervisor to assist the Area Superintendent in planning and scheduling for the maintenance program, special projects, and personnel needs. Sponsorship not provided for this opportunity.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Investigate and recommend solutions to operations and maintenance complaints
- Estimate repair, construction and materials costs
- Assist in ordering, storing and utilizing maintenance materials
- Assist and advise crew on difficult and unusual problems when necessary
- Monitor maintenance contracts and expenditures
- Inspect work performed, maintain daily reports , and monitor Force Account activities
- Serve as liaison between the contractor and the department and between the department and the public
- Take calls from citizens and respond as necessary
- Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques
- Ensure workplace safety by identifying workplace hazards and making suggestions for improvement
- Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws and procedures (OSHA etc.) and train crew members on proper safety methods
- Ensure equipment is used properly and safely
- Oversee the maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe work environment
- Assist with emergency operations to ensure the safe operation of roadways
- Support emergency operations including storm damage repairs, clearing roadways of snow, ice and debris, accident clean-up, and providing traffic control during and after normal working hours
- Assist in preparation and maintenance of program and project documentation
- Assist contractor's personnel and other technicians in interpreting approved plans and NCDOT standards and specificationsAssist the Area Superintendent and Residency Management in the preparation of budget reports, data, and records
- Assist in forecasting additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies
- Monitor expenditures and recommend adjustments as necessary
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance equipment required to perform a variety of moderate to highly skilled tasks in the maintenance of roadways

Skilled in understanding equipment capabilities and operations related to maintenance construction activities
Skilled in the use of computers and software applications
Ability to direct, evaluate and train others
Required Experience
- Associate degree in civil engineering technology, Survey Technology and assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 Years construction experience
- Knowledge of roadway engineering and maintenance and construction practices and procedures
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance equipment required to perform a variety of moderate to highly skilled tasks in the maintenance of roadways
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
- Ability to attain NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, density, Aggregate and Borrow Pit sampling, and other certification as required/needed
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Experience
- Ability to gather data, conduct research and create reports
- Knowledge of asset management principles and inventory practices and procedures
- Experience supervising others and evaluating performance
- Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower
- Inventory management experience
- Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal, storm damage, and accident clean-up
- DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field 50% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Work is performed within a general office environment 50% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
